Worried about Ellen 😢 Healing vibes please

Impleased things aren't looking too awful for Ellen. As mentioned previously, it may be a loss of muscle mass. I understand about the 1kg marker worry but since Honey's op she has sat at around the 812g mark. I've come to accept this is just how she will be now, and as long as she's happy, eating and drinking all normally, as well as not losing any more weight, I'm not worried. I feed her small amounts of plain oats to try and bump her weight a little, do I don't know if this is something you could try for Ellen

Thank you all. Ellen is down to 977g today which is a worry :( but she was desperate for her breakfast this morning. I’m hoping it’s a combination of muscle mass and her poorly bladder but I’m hoping her weight picks up again once the antibiotics and metacam kicks in. She had a poorly bladder a couple of months ago so I’m wondering if she hasn’t really had the chance to recover from that.

I’m just glad that my vet couldn’t feel any masses or anything when she examined her and she isn’t overly concerned about the weight loss at this stage

I may try her on some oats and see how she gets on

Does she run to fresh hay when it's put down? Hay is as you know difficult to measure how much is eaten, maybe provide a variety of hay if you don't already to encourage her to eat it, just incase she's just eating her veggies and pellets and not grazing enough.

In terms of the oats, Honey goes a bit crazy for them so they may be worth a go 🤣

Yes she does go running to hay but I may have a look at some different hays

Do you know of oats are sugary or have a lot of carbohydrate as she can’t eat a lot of sugar or carbohydrate as she has a history of diabetes?

I would imagine oats to have zero sugar, but would be full of carbs. Its a super slow release energy food

Aw, hope she puts on weight soon. What about the beetroot sticks in Bistro Salad, would that be ok or a bit too sugary?

I'm sorry I'm not sure on this, all I know is that they are quite fattening. Good luck with Ellen!

Can’t add much else but sending healing vibes - I know how crushing it is to see the scales go down instead of up. Chunk is up and down with his eating the last few days so he’s been having all sorts to try and get weight back on.

Thank you. It’s horrible isn’t it :( She’s had some sweetcorn coblets for tea so I hope that helps. I hope that Chunk starts to gain weight too

I’m currently in Nottingham spending a few days with the in-laws for New Year. My mum is staying to house and pet sit. She’s just weighed Ellen for me and she’s 1010g tonight. Least it’s a gain and not a loss so I’m hoping the meds have kicked in

Just caught up with this thread Claire. I hope Ellen continues to improve. She is a special little girl and her Edward loves her very much! X
