Worst Experience Of My Life In Vets!

I have just picked up this thread and can't believe your experience. Firstly, I am so sorry for your loss.
I will look forward to seeing how you progress.

For the record, I remember taking one of my guinea pigs in for a check up and the nurse interrupting my consultation with the vet because an animal had been brought in (dog - admittedly) in pain and bleeding. The vet apologised for leaving but I wouldn't have expected anything else ! These people are meant to care about animal welfare. They should prioritise their workload.

Have you heard anything back from them yet?

No, nothing.

I'm gonna do the complaint to the rcvs when I get in. Need to have a look at the welfare act and

exactly, when I heard her call in an appointment, a dog they claim was a transfer and in a bad way, I heard her say "awww sorry for making you walk". Now if the dog was in such bad shape why was he allowed to just stroll in? were they mistreating this dog as well as rosie? or are they telling porky pies? The latter me thinks.

I work in a vet surgery so I know how difficult it can be to prioritise cases (particularly as I work the emergency service shifts where there's minimal vets and everyone coming through the door has a medical emergency), and I just have a question...at any point while you were waiting, did you let the reception staff or nurses know that she was deteriorating?

I am very sorry to hear of your experience. We would all like to hope that in an emergency, and having spent the time and care you have done to warn the vets etc before arrival, that your piggie would have been seen immediately.

Thankfully my own vets practices ( I have used several over the years) have all been extremely responsive to my emergency visits that involve euthanasia - but having said that - there have been a couple of delays and one of which ended up with ME being chewed out by the Head of Practice when they learned of the dealy( I just hope they did the same to their own staff on duty that night!)

As with human A & E departments there is a similar "triage" type of system in place and depending upon the current "status" of the piggie concerned - compared to other patients (especially out of hours) - we all have to take our turn. My concern in your case it that there was bleeding and therefore some type of acute trauma ongoing - (but having said that, bear in mind that I have also rushed a piggie to the vet for an awful double nosebleed - only to find it was not a PTS but merely they'd knocked themselves on their ramp and fully recovered/bleeding stopped within 30mins).

I am not in any way excusing the treatment your received (or rather didn't receive)...and I agree that a complaint should be made firstly to the Practice and then, if you are dis-satisfied with their reply, to the RCVS. However in order to make an effective complaint you have to "know" the system and how vets are expected to operate within that system and point to where they have deviated from that "system". Amanda's point ios a good one as this will be part of the analysis of any complaint.

I have helped several members on this forum to make complaints to RCVS so PM me if you want me to check over any letters etc. I have also asked asdmin to delete the names of the vets in your previous post as if you are going to make a complaint I think you should be careful what information you put out into the public domain as it could jeopardise your chances.

Oh no poor Pixie. How have they confirmed it is cancer?

The vet was excellent, X-ray and ultrasound without ga etc

It hasn't been confirmed but she was fairly certain it was ovarian cancer and definatly not cysts.

She advised against knocking her out to get a proper sample.

She was very good, she let me watch and explained everything as she went!

Seem to be cursed at the
Moment every time I have an exam a pig gets sick the day before!

Sorry to hear about Pixie. One of mine had a cancerous growth on her ovary, 400g of cancerous growth to be precise (she was 1.2kg pre-op and 800g immediately post op). She had it removed (she was spayed) and has made a full recovery.

Sorry your vets haven't been responsive and co-operative to your complaint. But I am pleased to hear you are still taking it further. Keep us informed of what is happening.

I really can't believe it. The first vet have a "free to good home" advert on gumtree for a cat that was "abandoned"! They really should know better.

Are you saying that a veterinary surgeon is actually advertising a cat free to a good home on Gumtree! That is DISGUSTING! Please. please report them and see if you can get anyone to get the cat from them before it finishes up going as bait for fighting dogs.

Yes, I can pm you the advert.

Beggars belief. They sound uncaring as well as incompetent. I do hope you are able to take things further, they should not be allowed near animals never lone care for them!

Liverpool cat welfare are calling them when they open to see whats going on and to complain. Ive asked for a copy to go along with my complaint to the rcvs as proof of how unprofessional they are.

I forgot to add. Pixie pig has improved massively since her cancer diagnosis. Her weight is back to normal and she's back to pottering about her cage and giving me smiles. She's playing me though, her cage is next to my desk and she keeps giving me feed me eyes. Naturally i'm obliging, giving her as much as she wants while she is still wanting to eat. I noticed aswell, I cant feel the tumour in her stomach anymore, so it must of shrunk. The vet said that may happen with the meds. I'm thinking of taking her for another xray/ultrasound to see whats going on.

That's really good news! You've been through a tough time and deserve a change in fortunes. Little pixie knows exactly what 'buttons to press' by the sounds of it! Lol! X
