On today's series of unfortunate events, Gertrude didn't look right this morning so I checked her over and her bum looks like this? I've given her a bit of pain relief.

Can someone identify what's going on here and how urgent the issue is?

She does have multiple fatty lumps around her abdomen which got checked out a year ago, not sure if this is related.

edit: possible stone? There's a hard yellow lump in there. I can't remove it. I think this requires an urgent vet visit?

Thank you so much.

Vet is booked for tomorrow right now.

Hi

Please see a vet as an emergency. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Hi all, sorry for only just getting back to you! I took her to the vets as soon as I saw the bladder stone.

We got it out!

She had to be sedated and originally the vets thought a small surgery would be required, but once she was under sedation they managed to probe the stone out.

She had an ultrasound too - she has lots of sludge in her bladder still, and we're switching to filtered water. I'm so grateful that I noticed that something was off this morning and we could help her before her condition got worse. The vets were amazing.

My sleepy girl is back home now and has munched on some lettuce whilst she recovers from today's ordeal!

Ah that’s great news - well done for spotting the problem and getting her there asap
Your Vets did a wonderful job
Lots of fuss for your girl 🥰
It’s a great idea to use filtered water - I have a Brita filter jug but some people use ashbeck bottled water BUT check the calcium level in it as it varies.
She looks happy ❤️

Thanks all for your concern 🥰 I think I'll be going for brita filtered water!
I get my Brita filters on offer from the supermarket or from Amazon
We have very hard water here and I have to change it every 2 wks
But the piggies and I use it so it’s great value !

Great news!

My vet dispenses cystark for bladder sludge, it certainly seems to flush a lot of white goop out in the pee.

Ooh thank you. I will look into that.

I was going to say - I have checked her vulva again today and it does of course look very swollen given her ordeal from yesterday, I just wanted to upload here to make sure that it's looking normal given the situation.

I pressed on it lightly and there does seem to be sludge coming out of it, which hopefully is a good sign!

She's also hungry for lettuce which is great. I've syringe fed her some water. She remembers to eat when she's placed on top of hay!

Hi all, my Gertrude hasn't been drinking since she came home.

She's eating nuggets and hay and squeaking for lettuce but she's screaming when she poops and pees and refusing water (I've been syringe feeding around 10ml once a day and giving her lettuce soaked in water instead, it's very hard because she dribbles it out of her mouth).
She has certainly perked up since her sedation 3 days ago but is still not right. I have seen her drink a small amount of water once, about a day ago, and for the most part she stays in her hidey and still doesn't have her sparkle back.

Usually she wouldn't let me stroke her, but she will, now.

Advice welcomed please x

(she's on metacam 0.2ml dog twice daily, and her bladder is inflamed and still has sludge in it, which might be causing her pain?)

Keep weighing her daily every morning to keep an eye on weight loss. That will tell you how much you need to syringe feed daily but it could be as much as 100ml if she stops eating on her own.

I think the pain meds could definitely be increased. But only a vet can advise on that. It’s good that it’s dog strength and twice a day.

Good luck at the vets.

Thanks all! We went to the vets who said she still seemed okay and she looked like she might just be feeling the effects of the sedation and possibly some pain at her entrance from the stone + any sludge.

Ultrasound looked okay given the circumstances and they weren't keen to up her meds unfortunately.

The good news is that today she's fully back to normal, is drinking by herself, and she's currently maintaining/slightly increasing her weight ☺️

Ah well done Gertrude …you brave girl ❤️
Keep munching sweet girl
You must feel relieved @Charlottibiscot 🥰
