I'm getting 2 baby boys next week. I've been reading up on their diet and I'm getting confused and unsure of what to listen to and what not.. the breeder has told me which food to buy for them which is fine but it's the extras they need to be fed for vitamin C.. there is so much information I don't want to get it wrong.

I also want to grow them a piggy grass area in the garden and wondered if anyone had any reccomendations on which seeds I should buy to grow them some grass.. I've read about wheatgrass and some meadow flowers?

Which leads to my next question, I'm not sure if the piggies have been eating grass at the breeders as they are kept in a separate 'maternity ward' from her own guinea pigs.. I've read that introducing them to eating grass too soon can be bad for them? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated!

I just grow regular grass in trays for them.

Introduce it very slowly and you shouldn't have an issue.

I've got a grow bag tray to grow some in too.. do you just use normal soil? I can't seem to find any seeds online!

You can get grass seed from places like Wilko and B&Q (and even B&M too!) :) Normal soil would be fine if think, after all garden soil would be very similar :)

Yeah, normal soil is fine. You'd use it if you were going to grow veg so it's okay for grass.

The piggies will love it! :D

Definitely introduce slowly. The first time one of my pigs ate grass, he had really soft poop/diarrea. NOT fun.

Okay, will be very careful! Thank you!

What about veg? What do you feed your guinea pis?

I feed beets, carrots, lettuce, cucumber, green beans, dandelion greens, tomatoes, various herbs, grape vine leaves, wild rose petals, etc.

Just a case of trial and error to find out what they like then! Thank you

My piggies had grass as soon as they came home (3 months) and they already had some grass at the rescue. They eat huge amount of grass because their diet is based on hay and grass (no pellets, no fruit and few vegs) and started eating lots of grass without any belly issues.
I pick up normal grass, depending on what I find (in private gardens now) and they have their preferences (unfortunately). The one they prefer is the common grass:

for the vit C a piece of bell pepper is enough and fresh grass is rich of vit C, too. I give them also 2 drops of a supplement (here all the vets suggest Cebion drops especially if you don't give your piggies the pellets which are fortified of vit C), but it depends on the "school" of the vet.
There is a website called Guinea Lynx which has a lot of charts and list of the food richest of vit C, if you are concerned...
I hope to see soon the pics of your piggies!

they are so cute!! maybe their fur will grow, because also my piggies when they were babies had a shorter hair. But I don't know and it depends on their parents

The black one is a Peruvian cross and has fluffy like fur and the other one is a lunkary (I can't remember how it's spelt) and they seem to have quite long fur from what I remember.. I saw the mother and father of both.. the males were also pretty big!
