Big Day For Beans Tomorrow.

So glad it all went well :)

I only kept my 2 separate for a day, I knew they would be fine together once Tilly was eating and Hettie wasn't eating much on her own, she relies totally on Tilly's confidence!

I kept Tilly just on puppy pads for the first day or so with hay in a pile away from her bed. She started lying on it after a couple of days but I didn't out any back in her bed for a week or so.

I gently checked the wound twice a day to check for any inflamation, have you got painkillers and antibiotics to give her?

Hope she continues to do well :)
Thanks

I'll keep them separate for a couple days just until I see Beans pooing normally again (she isn't pooing ) but they're interacting through the bars.

I've got Loxicom for pain relief and Emeprid to help with the bloat. My vet doesn't give out anti biotics after surgery with guinea pigs, only if they need them. I'm off work until Sunday so I'll be watching her like a hawk until then :P

So glad to see beautiful Beans up and about. It's amazing how easily piggies get over major surgery. You definitely made the right decision
Fingers crossed for proper poo soon!

Beans still hasn't done any poos... should I be worried? The vet did say she may not pass much for 24 hours but she's not done any since leaving the vets.. she's had 1ml of emeprid tonight. She's also not peed since about 7pm, or if she has it's been a tiny amount but the fleece isn't wet like it was when I changed her at 8pm.

She's eating hay and nuggets herself, will not drink from the water bottle and is very reluctant to take it from a syringe... any reason for this? :hmm:

I am pretty sure that her poo output is directly related to her food intake 24 hours ago, so if she didn't eat much on the morning of her surgery she wouldn't be pooping much now (I hope that makes sense). So as long as you are sure se is eating now the poop output should slowly start to increase again.

Not sure about the drinking though - that's a bit strange.
Maybe she is just messing with your mind in her secret bid for total world domination!

Does she have to stretch up at all to the water bottle? maybe it's a bit sore for her atm.

Tilly rarely drinks any water at all so I syringed her some several times a day for the first few days.

Tilly only did a few small poops in the first couple of days but they slowly improved as her food intake increased.

I'd keep persevering with the syringe to get some fluids into her and monitor the wee output.

Hope she feels better soon x

I'm going to phone the vets when they open at 830. She doesn't seem to have peed since last night. She is eating hay and nuggets by herself but will not take water, the bottle is low enough for her plus I've tried offering it in a syringe and she doesn't want it. I've got some into her by holding her head but she's really putting up a fight, yet she's took her medicine fine from the syringe so I don't get it.

I'm also a bit concerned that her wound is quite hot...

Phoned the vet, he's happy that she's eating and pooing. She's not peeing but that could be down to not drinking much. Just gave her her veg there, soaked it in water first so she is getting some at least.

If she still hasn't peed by this afternoon I've to take her in. They like to keep me stressed

Watermelon, make sure there are no seeds, very watery and will hydrate. Can recommend getting some avipro plus to pop in water, piggies love the taste of it and it is a good probiotic.

Pooing is a great sign, the wee will come x

Let us know how the check up goes. Love and vibes to Miss Beans

Thanks, she loves watermelon actually. Does anywhere sell that probiotic in store, I can only see it online.. would the pets at home probiotic do instead?

She's done a fair amount of poos now and a small amount of pee. She's still quite sleepy and tired looking but she's popping in and out of her hidey to eat some hay

Is made my the same people as Avipro too I think.

Great she is pooing and eating. Fingers crossed for pee.

Does this wound look odd to anyone? There's a small blood stain, is this okay..?

Sorry they're not completely in focus it's hard to keep her still.

I should add, I've got her on white fleece and there are no blood stains on the fleece, just a slight stain on her belly.. not sure this is to be expected or not.

Not that I know of... It may do, they love the taste you see.

She'll just be grumpy as shes sore and her hormones will be all over he place, give her time. Her wound looks good x

I can imagine, poor pig. I just feel so sorry for Toast. She keeps trying to get Beans to pay attention to her, she's just walking around the cage in circles looking for something to do. I keep petting her and giving her cuddles but it's not the same as piggy company. I swear looking after these pigs is the most stressful thing :P

Wishing Beans a speedy recovery! Hope she can be back with Toast soon... good luck little Beans :luv:

You haven't put toast in with beans yet, poor toast she only wants to lick & kiss her. That's it, it's cruelty to toast where's that RSPCA number. Ha Ha

I'm waiting for the poo/pee situation to be consistent before putting Beans back in the main cage. They're only divided though the grids but poor Toasty is so desperate for her sister and Beans just wants to sleep and eat..:drool:

Beans is losing a lot of weight.

Before the op on Wednesday she weighed 1153g.

The day after the op she was 1103g.
Early this morning she was 1089g and right now she's 1072g...

50g loss after the op and a further 31g since then.

She's been eating hay and pellets all night and she's been munching away this morning so I don't understand how she is continuing to lose weight?

One thing I've noticed is that I haven't seen her eating any poos... would that have anything to do with it?

Have you been weighing her at the same time each day? The only reason I ask is because I almost had a heart attack on Wednesday which is when I weigh my piggies. Ellen had shot down to 1116g when she usually hovers between 1150g and 1180g but when I weighed her a little later, she was back up to her normal weight and has stayed that weight ever since.

Guinea pig weights can fluctuate massively throughout the day depending on what they have eaten, drank and how many poo's and wee's they have done etc x

I weight them at the same time ever Sunday but since her op on Wednesday I've weighed her a few times a day and it's constantly going down, it's never went up even by a few grams that's why I'm worrying :hmm:She's doing loads of poos, still not a lot of pees but she is peeing.. she's had more nuggets than I'd normally give her, she's munching hay and taking veg and I'm giving probiotic so I don't get it why she's lost 81 grams :(
