A couple of weeks ago I noticed Panda had developed crusty nipples. I researched online and it said it could possibly be linked to ovarian cysts, so I took her to the vet for a checkup. They weren’t concerned about it and gave me some wet wipes to clean her with.

(I don’t know if this is worth noting, but the last few months she has been rumbling the other guinea pigs and jumping on them).

I bathed her that day and managed to clean this crusty skin off and I’ve been using the wipes daily since the appointment. However, they don’t seem to be getting rid of the crusty skin. I don’t want to go rubbing too much incase I irritate her.

I’m just looking for other peoples thoughts on what this might be and how’s best to treat it.
Thanks, Georgia 😊

Hi

Please have your sow vet checked for ovarian cysts.

Below is more information on them, as well as on possible treatment methods. Ovarian cysts are common problem in adult sows with the hormonal cysts most commonly active around 2-4 years and non-hormonal fluid filled cysts very common in older sows; while the latter won't cause any hormonal symptom, they can occasionally grow to quite a large size and cause problems that way. A small number of ovarian cysts can turn cancerous.

Please take the time to read this link here. You are dealing with an active hormone-based ovarian cyst: Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)
