Hi

I am thinking about getting a couple of guinea pigs from a rescue.

I am thinking about making a cage from wood as i am limited for height on 2 sides.

Is wood ok to make it from? Any specific wood would be great?

I am in the UK, I plan on making the cage at least 3.5ftx3.5ft but may extend it to 3.5ft width with 4ft length, maybe a bit longer.

I plan on using fleece as a bedding

Yes it’s fine to make it from wood.
C&c cages are also an option as they can be configured however you need them to be.
A c&c grid measures 35cm high and most piggies won’t get over that height

I would recommend you discuss sizing with the rescue of your choice before making the cage. They have their own specific criteria on cage size so if you make something and then they aren’t happy with it, you could need to modify etc.

You need a cage covering ideally 10 square feet for a sow pair, and 12 square feet for a boar pair

Similar to @rp1993.
My cage is half an old child’s wardrobe, which was just wood which we painted with childsafe paint. And then we extended it and used furniture board. For the bottom we used a large plywood sheet, again painted. Then plexiglass for the front.B80E837D-0624-4B00-92D5-E1F886D19244.webp

Hi how did you stick the extentions together please? I am looking to extend my cage as well but did not want to waste the woods I have already.
