I was hoping for opinions and advice for a DIY cage I'm in the process of designing!
I was originally inspired by the Squeak Dreams (off you tubes) DIY cage and made this design (unsure on including the platform or not at the moment) for my two piggies based on that using contiboard and perspex. Mine would be 150 x 75cm which is just over 12 square feet.
Now I'm thinking of using some kind of softwood planks to make the frame instead of the contiboard which I'm aware will be a little more expensive. Has anyone seen a similar cage and have any advice? I'm struggling to find another wooden cage for reference!
Thank you :luv:

We have a wooden cage! We just used 30cm furniture boards from B&Q, I’d say the plexi was the most expensive part you can get it online cut to size much cheaper then we paid for it at B&q, we don’t have a loft or ramp area as our boys are raised off the floor.

I made my piggy house out of wood and plexiglass. Here are a few pictures of it. Sorry the plexiglass looks blurry, I need to wipe it down. I made it in small panels so I can take it apart easily and reconfigure it if needed. Cocoa and Oreo's house is 3 feet by 5 feet. I used pine boards to make the frame of it and kept the wood on the outside of the house so the piggies can't chew it.

I love this! What is the base made of? Did you need to use any sealant on the bottom or add a waterproof layer etc?

This is really great, thank you! Where did you get your pine boards and plexiglass?
I like that it can be reconfigured too, I rent so It would make moving a tad easier!

Thank you! Our base it made of planks of pine that we used to use as a table for them, but a piece of MDF of plywood would be easier! We have a piece of vinyl floor covering on top that we just bought an off cut of.

We used aquarium sealant around the joins and edges. The base was mdf and we stood it on two IKEA tables. However you could easily just buy legs to attach to the base rather than the tables too.

I bought my supplies at Lowes; I don't think you have that store. I bought a huge piece of plexiglass and the store cut it up for me for free. I bought it during May/June last yea. I had people following me in the store asking where I got the plexiglass as they needed it for their business to reopen.

No we don't have Lowes here and I'm struggling to think what our alternative is 🤔 we have DIY stores (B&Q, Wickes) but I'm not sure if they will cut it for you I'll have to look into that.
Wow yeah I can imagine plexiglass being in demand last year 😬 you'd think I wouldn't have such as task finding it as a reasonable price!

Do you have hardware stores? That is what Lowes is for us. Or is that what a DIY store is? Ooohh! Can you find out where the construction guys get their lumber? Or ask a mom and pop store where they got their plexiglass? That might work.

On a side note, I made mine with mostly plexiglass so my 2 year old has the satisfaction of seeing the piggies but not getting to them. Well, that was till he grew a bunch! The piggies can still get away from him if they hang out in the middle of their house.

Please post pictures when you are done/in progress of building so we can see it!

B&Q will cut it for you! It may be worth calling before to check the cutting bit is open!

Yes hardware store is what I meant by DIY store - I couldn't think of the word!
I'll post pictures yes! It'll be at least a couple because I'll wait until I visit my family next as I want to steal a few of their tools 🙂

I think I've found a local timber place to get some wood, just need to go through all the measurements and decide how much of the cage will be plexiglass, unsure on just the front or one of the sides too
