Dry Scalp? Possible mites?

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing well during this crisis. My piggie Ruby scratches herself every now and then - like any piggie would. She wouldn’t scratch herself to the point where it’s excessive and she would cut herself. I did however checked on her and saw that she seems to have dry looking scalp on her back - more towards her bottom area. It almost looks like dry human scalp, which is why I’m referring it to that. I’m not sure if her skin is just dry, as only that part of her body is where the scalp is at. Also when I try to take the scalp out of her fur, most of it is dark flakes. Some of the flakes are attached with one or two pieces of fur - so when I do try to take the scalp out (I’m not picking at her scalp) she squeals :(.

She is a bit of an over dramatic piggie but it worries me that this may be an mite/lice issue. I tried to look if it’s lice or mites but I don’t seem to see any, it’s kind of hard since her fur is dark brown. My vet is currently closed and they’re only taking in pets in dire emergencies. I haven’t made an appointment to go because it doesn’t seem to affect her - it’s only when I look at the area is when it bothers her. Does anyone happen to know what Ruby is dealing with and how it can be treated from home?

My Ambrocious gets dry flakes sometimes on the top of his neck almost to his shoulder blades. I'll be giving him a scratch and feel something. When I look it's white, lifted skin. Like dandruff, but if I remove it it will take hair with it. He doesn't seem to notice at all when it happens. He also tends to get a very hard white crust? On his lower lip. Can he get his own boat paste there because I can't think of what else it would be.

The vet is going to be the best persln o be able to help. We can make guesses as to what it could be, but ultimately only a hands on vet check will get a diagnosis. You can’t see mites, you can only see their effects. A vet would need to do a skin scraping and look under a microscope.
Please don’t try to do any treatments at home yourself, these can be ineffective at best and harmful at worst if you were to try the wrong thing.

Did you find out what this was as I’m seeing a similar issue in regards to the lifted skin with my piggie!

Anna, I don’t know that you’re likely to get any answers from here or the other post you replied to. Your best bet is to get your piggy to the vet for a check. And start your own thread. Sometimes the original posters don’t come back.
