Hello!

I was cuddling my sow piggy Bear this evening and felt something in her fur. Upon closer inspection it almost looked like a tiny scab. I found another one on her skin and when brushing through her fur, I noticed tiny flakes on my white dresser. Does anybody know what this could be?

My other pig doesn't seem to be as dry although in her black fur you can see white flakes but hardly any.

Has anyone got any advice? I have no idea what this could be...

The increased indoors heating with the cooler winter weather here in the UK can lead to drier skin, but I would keep my eye out in case it develops into a fungal problem. If in any doubt, please see a vet.

It is extremely slight I must admit, I will certainly keep an eye on it and I'm also going to order some shampoo from GG x Thanks Weibke

What kind of fur does she have? I have read that rex's tend to have drier skin as the fur is thicker. My Kiara has been drier than her sisters all her life, and sometimes i also find small scabs

She is an Abyssinian... I did wonder if it was the central heating etc. and interesting to know about your Kiara, I guess some are prone to these things more than others. I have just ordered some gentle lavender shampoo and an aloe melt from GG to try

I think you'll find GG recommend the Manuka & Neem for flaky skin. Abys don't generally suffer with it, but any little scabs could be the start of fungal, or possibly mange mites, when mine had them the first sign I noticed was little scabs. Any hair loss at all? If in doubt I would see a vet for a proper diagnosis though :)

Ahhh OK thank you. No hair loss at all and the scab was so so tiny it was almost like a larger piece of flaky skin. I will certainly keep a very close eye on it as haven't noticed it before and I handle her every day. If I think it needs further checking I will of course take her to the vet

I know it's not the same, but recently my Galaxy has developed some dry skin under his chin (I'm sure because of the water bowl) I put a small amount of e45 on it and changed to a water bottle and he was fine again within 2 days.
I hope your piggies scab is nothing and clears up :-)
