Eddie doesn't quite seem himself

Eddie's definitely loving his grass. Today he's looked the happiest when eating grass earlier and now with his smaller portion of veg. I decided I would give him some veg as he was excited and putting his laws up on the bars when I was cutting it and I'm happy that he's just eating something.

Eddie just ate more hay in one go than I've seen him eat all day! 😄😄 He was eating his pellets and suddenly hopped over to the fresh hay I just put down and started eating almost normally- no pawing at the hay or dropping it back out his mouth either. They weren't as big mouthfuls as normal but it's definitely something 😄

Update for you all:

Eddie been nice and perky again today and eating some hay again like yesterday 😁 Yesterday he sighed 1069g and today he is 1039 so still nothing to worry about there. I had a phone consultation with the vet earlier and she was happy that he's getting better so I'm just going to keep him on the metacam for a few days after he is completely back to normal and eating as normal and then we'll see if he stays fine once he's off metacam. His poos are still squishy and there's less of them but the vet said as long as they get no worse to keep giving him veg as it encourages him to eat.

Aw, great news about Eddie, it’s such a relief when near normal eating returns. just keep a daily record of his weight so you can see a trend and you know he is getting enough to eat x

I wouldn't say he's back to normal yet but he's definitely improving. Yes I've got a little notebook for piggy weights :)

Update:
This morning when I weighed Eddie he was 1015g when yesterday he was 1039g. That's 57g loss since I started weighing him daily on Saturday.
I haven't seen him eat much hay this morning. Though he ate some hay yesterday morning/ early afternoon I didn't see him eat any later in the day. So I put a pile of grass in front of him about an hour ago and he ate some but he's gone back to sitting in him box. I feel like he's gone backwards compared to yesterday :(

Is 57g loss in 4 days something I should be worried about?
Do I need to do more to encourage him to eat? I'm not sure what else to do other than start forcing him to eat critical care that he doesn't like. He's decided he's not keen on oats either

I could really do with some advice from all you piggy experts

Offering support - advice I will leave to the experts, but I would chat with your vet again.

I would say that as this is a downward trend it is time to step in and offer support feeding. Have you tried Emeraid or Recovery plus if he’s not keen on Critical care. Some of his own mushed pellets in syringe is better than nothing. It’s such a worry when they are losing chunks of weight like this.

My Ted liked Emeraid far better than the others. It’s priced at £12 on eBay at the moment for 100

Are you anywhere near Northampton? Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic | Northlands Vets
Ask for an appt with Simon or Kim, they will be able to confirm if it’s a dental problem or not, and do a conscious dental if needed, takes around 10 minutes, no referrals needed, costs £60 plus a one off registration fee around the same price x

We took Meg to Cat & Rabbit in May last year as my normally very good vet couldn't find what was wrong with her but I knew there was something wrong. They diagnosed and treated her in 10 minutes! I was very impressed. We took her again for a follow up and that was all that was needed. It was a long journey for us - around a 5 hour round trip but it was so worth it and Meg is still here.

I'm currently with my mum on the way to a specialist that my normal vet referred us to. When on the phone earlier we mentioned Cat and Rabbit as an option but they said they don't do referrals to there and that they weren't a special which is odd but I trust my vet and I trust they have referred us to somewhere good. We did call Cat and Rabbit earlier but didn't get through so I assume they are quite busy. I seem to remember reading in the forum that you have to call early in the morning to get throigh. I'd rather get Eddie seen now than wait because he's definitely looking quieter and stiller again despite the metacam. Elvis is coming along too.

Also because they've referred us the new vet knows everything my normal one knows about Eddie which is helpful.

They are always very busy. They are general vets who specialise in anything dental with small furries. They are also excellent surgeons too. They are number one when it comes to experience in GP dentistry as they do around 30 plus dentals a week. You don’t need a referral from any vet, you just ring for an appointment and turn up. Your own vet can email his notes over to the practice.
Wishing you all the best, I hope you can get Eddie better soon x

The vet (Martin) has looked at Eddie and he also can't see anything obviously wrong with Eddie's mouth but he agrees everything we described sounds like a mouth problem. He didn't use anesthetic to see right inside but since the first vet couldn't find anything when she did that he doesn't want to since it's likely he won't find anything different. He's decided he wants to have them in overnight to watch Eddie eat and they have nurses who will feed him and all of that. Then in the morning he will phone us to say what they want to do now they've seen what's he's like for themselves.
It also turns out the dose of metacam Eddie's been having (5kg dose of cat metacam) is far too weak and he could have 3 times that!
