Eddie doesn't quite seem himself

Update:

Eddie had passed some poos overnight so the vets were happy to start investigating and they found what was wrong! :yahoo: It turns out it was a spur but it was right at the very back of Eddie's mouth and they only found it by putting a little camera in his mouth to get an extra close look so they weren't suprised the first vet couldn't find anything. The spur had been rubbing his cheek which has caused an ulcer and an infection. It's no wonder he didn't want to eat, poor boy! So that's been burred and they've also evened out he rest of his teeth because they'd not been worn down quite right due to his funny eating. He's not interested in solid food just yet but he's still happily taking his syringe food.

He's staying in again for one last night and then I can pick up my boys, metacam, antibiotics and some of their syringe food tomorrow.

I'm so relieved I finally have some answers!
 
Thank goodness they found out what was wrong. This is what Meg had only the inside of her mouth hadn't ulcerated it had been lacerated by her tooth :yikes: . She wasn't confident at eating hay for a good few months but never gave up eating grass. Obviously, I'm not saying that Eddie will be the same but just thought I'd let you know so you won't worry if he doesn't feel he can eat hay until his mouth has improved and he realises it doesn't hurt anymore.
 
Update:

Eddie and Elvis are back home! They came home yesterday evening and they both look glad to be back. The nurse who brought them out to us said he'd been sat quite still in his cage but she didn't know if that was because he felt sick or if he was scared so she wants to try him at home and we'll call on Monday to discuss how he's getting on. If he doesn't seem to be getting better they want to see him again on Monday but if he's doing ok they want to see him again in a week's time.
For meds Eddie's got:
Painkiller- loxicom once daily
Antibiotic- co-trimoxazole every 12 hours
Gut stimulant- ranitidine every 12 hours

Eddie's isn't eating hay so I've got Emeraid to feed him (4ml 4 times a day). He was 944g when I weighed him this morning and he was 1015g on the 12th which is the last time I weighed him before he stayed at the vets so he's lost 71g in 4 days.

He is much brighter and hungrier now compared to when he went to the vets so the painkiller is clearly working this time. He took his Emeraid very enthusiastically last night and he ate 2 leaves of lettuce and a normal portion of greens once I'd cut it into strips for him.

He has also pooed overnight too. They're obviously small at the moment but he is pooing so that's a good sign.
 
I’m so glad the boys are back home and Eddie has done some poos! Hopefully they’ll get bigger with time!
 
Aw so sorry you’ve had a bit of a nightmare finding the issue with lovely Eddie, just caught up as brain’s been a pain :doh: So pleased he’s home and feeling a bit better!:hug:They tend to be a bit sore for a few days after a dental but hopefully with his pain relief dose right now he’ll be eating and pooping well again soon!

It all sounds really positive, so glad you found out what was wrong 🙂 just keep shoving that food into him!
 
I missed a chunk of this thread.
So sorry that you’ve had such a difficult week but it’s good to know Eddie’s teeth are now fine.
Hopefully he will recover fast and soon be munch his hay.
 
Update:

Eddie's been munching hay much more today, in facts he's eating some right now. He seems to managing fine as well- there's no head tossing or pawing at his mouth or dropping hay like before. I'm very happy with how well in himself he seems today and this is only the second full day since he came home from the vets! He's taking all his meds well too and he's thoroughly enjoying his emeraid. This morning he was so excited he snatched the syringe off me 🤣

Today he weighed in at 966g which is 22g up from yesterday. It's not much but it's a step in the right direction! :)
