Yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful Edie and sent her off to be with her sister, Pippa, in guinea pig Heaven. For the past year she had various health complications but bounced back every time. She truly amazed us and it was a strong testament of her character. Edie was feisty and determined, detested her head being stroked and flicked us off every time! She enjoyed her space but wasn’t shy to a friendly lick. She was the boss of the cadge when Pippa was here but always wheeked for her whenever she wasn’t there. Pippa passed in May 2022 suddenly and Edie was moved by her passing. She missed her a lot but soon bounced back to her usual self and made us so proud. She loved her food as piggies do and spinach was a strong favourite. When Edie was a pup she would absolutely love me holding a blanket above her, creating a little fort, and she would popcorn to her hearts content!
Over the Christmas period Edie suddenly couldn’t use her legs and was falling over every time she tried to move. She lost her appetite so we were very worried and rushed her to the vets. They thought she had arthritis so she was prescribed some meds. She recovered yet again, returning to her usual self within the end of the week! Edie was a warrior. Sadly, this weekend she stopped eating again and we couldn’t get her to have anything. Yesterday Edie laid down on her side and we knew it was her time.
We watched her for hours and then we saw her body do a wave in slow motion almost like a ripple of her energy leaving her body. It was surreal to see. She took her last breath. She was so peaceful
Edie had her final journey to the crematorium this morning. I couldn’t have picked a nicer place, we had plenty time to say our goodbyes. It’s crazy how much these little pigs have an impact on your life. My girls helped me get through so much.
I will miss her terribly and I wish her all the spinach beyond the Rainbow Bridge. I hope it was a lovely reunion with your sister. You are so loved. Goodbye Edie, over the Rainbow Bridge you go.
