First Guinea Pig/having Some Questions

I'm not home atm but I will once I get home

Unfortunately it sounds like the breeder/pet store owner either has limited knowledge himself or is willing to tell you whatever he has to to make a sale. A vet visit is definitely in order to sort out whether she has mites or a fungal infection. Guinea pigs should not have bald patches, other than right behind their ears and potentially on the insides of their front feet (from grooming.) Dry skin in a guinea should not cause fur loss, though either mites or fungal skin infection can. While you're at the vet, you can also ask them to show you how to cut their nails. They do require nail trims which you can learn to do on your own, and perhaps your vet has some suggestions there! Best wishes and hope you get some good advice soon!

I am going to have to return her because I cant afford the vet bills for treatment.

There aren't any rescues around my home....

Hey hun! I'm on the East Coast as well and I understand that Guinea Pig rescues aren't a commonality over here! Please please please, before you take her back to the shop, see if the store will pay for the bills (legally in the US - I think they have to up to 30 days of purchase). If not, look around at different animal shelters / vets and see if they have any connections and would be able to get the little baby the treatment she needs along with shelter placement. It sounds terrible but I don't have high hopes for her if she goes back to the store.

I dont want to infect any of our other animals. I think it will be best to take her back and let the owner see the way his shop is treating the animals...

Hate to say it but I get the feeling the owner knows how the animals are being treated.

I would imagine he will take her back then just sell her on again. Personally I'd be claiming the costs back from him as I'm sure it will hit him hardest if it's coming out of his pocket rather than she just gets returned.

That pet store wont pay vet bills. It would become a legal battle and thats not okay. I cant afford a lawyer.

Isn't there anyone around you that could take her? I wouldn't take her back, I doubt she'd get the treatment she needs there

The closest vet is about 96 miles away.

Is there a rescue nearby? It's probably s good idea to surrender her to a rescue so she can get treatment. As humans it's our responsibility to make sure that they get medical attention when ever they need it.
