Last night when I was cage cleaning I noticed flakes on Gizmos ear. Upon closer inspection realized on top of the flakes were 2 red bumps they seemed to be trying to scab over. Initially I thought it was a scratch wound but that wouldn’t cause flaky-ness.
I did some research and at the time it looked more like a fungus to me *pictures below*. Last night it seemed more red and inflamed, this morning it doesn’t seem nearly as red and looks like its more scabbed over. So maybe it is a scratch? Anyways, compared to last night he’s scratching at it more and doing a guineapig head shake so he does know it’s there. Possiably because it’s healing? *BTW I swabbed for mites and nothing came up, the tissue I used was completely clean after the swab. I really don’t think it’s mites*
Him and his cage mate are usually separated (same cage but with a barrier in between). When I discovered this fungus/ scratch on his ear I set up another cage so the two boys currently don’t have contact. Henry’s ears looked completely clean but I’m still checking in with him
*Not sure this has anything do to with it but I keep their cage extremely clean with spot cleaning and a change of fleece every 3 days*
In the pictures I provided 2 pictures of his ear, comparison with his other ear, and inside the infected ear. I need to find a vet that knows guinea pigs in my area.7CFF4E1B-A0AA-4438-A1CC-8413A6102B76.webp EF1FE35E-5BF4-49EC-8F04-2E21DA3DD6A5.webp AC277334-FB50-460D-B77D-7C67316CC9F3.webp 0F556D2D-00DF-4644-823E-799B34F9364F.webp

Hello, yes looks like could be fungal, it's no where else on your piggy us it?

Please get them to a vet for treatment and diagnosis Guinea Lynx :: Fungus when we had a piggy with a fungal ear the vet told us to put some Clotrimazole 1% cream on and it cleared up. Luckily there was none inside their ear as you should never put anything inside of their ears.

We got him into the vet and the lady prescribed him clotrimazole cream and the next day his ear cleared up tremendously. Turns out it was fungal! For the next 2 weeks have to apply this to his ear twice daily. Anything for my piggies!
