Hi Everyone,
Our guinea pig (male, 2,5 years old) got antibiotics for 7 days (Enrofloxacin 0,15ml / day) due to occasional sneezing and stuffy nose. Two weeks after the antibiotics he started producing squishy, teardrop poops.
Since then we give him probiotics (Bio-Lapis) one pack per day (morning half pack, evening half pack). It's been 3 weeks. Now he mostly produces good poops, but sometimes it's still squishy, teardrop shaped or it has a small thread at the end. Also today we found one poop that kind of fused into another. So one good sized poop with a half fused to it. And the end of that half poop was a bit slimy. We never gave him veggies, currently we only give him Timothy hay, water, Oxbox digestive support cookie, Rodicare Akut drops (no pellets since today). So summing it up, 80-90% of his poops are normal sized / shaped. He is active, he squeeks for food and seemingly looks completely healthy. His weight is also stable (~1280 gr). He drinks around 80 ml water.

I've been reading this website for a while for good suggestions. We plan to take him to the vet next week if it's not getting any better, but before that I would like to ask your opinion.
Do you think it's still "okay" or acceptable that his gut still not recovered fully after 3 weeks? Do you have any experience regarding the length of a recovery from a situation like this?
Thank you in advance for the answers!

p.s. I also attach images from his poops from today.

Welcome to the forum

His poops don’t look too bad to be honest, perhaps a very minor issue remaining but it doesn’t look too concerning.
It’s good his weight is stable.

Can I ask, how are you administering the probiotics to him? (Rodicare Akut in particular is not something I’m familiar with)

It’s always good to check in with the vet though.

Thanks for the answer! I put 1 gr (half pack) of Bio Lapis into approx 8 ml water and give it to him from a syringe. Rodicare Akut is a food supplement that contains herbs that have a beneficial effect on the digestion and appetite. I give him 3 x 0,3 ml each day also from a syringe.

Is it a good idea to keep him on a hay and water diet for a few days, or can we give him some pellets?

He’s ok to have pellets.
It’s veg you need to remove when there is any gut disturbance (but I note you aren’t giving veg at present anyway)
