Guinea Pig On Back?!

This afternoon, my male guinea pig (nutmeg) was in the run with his friend (smudge), halfway in to his tunnel. All of a sudden smudge tried to join him in the tunnel! Nutmeg proceeded to turn on to his back, and smudge lay on top of him. We separated them to prevent suffocation. Is this normal behaviour, hasn't happened before, what can we do to stop it happening again?

If you are worried, either remove the tunnel or get a bigger one. Nutmeg obviously didn't mind a snuggle.

Haha, never heard of it. I think keep and eye on them. If it's every once in a while then maybe they are just cuddling?
