Hello all,

I have a 3 year old guinea pig "Lola" with an inflamed bladder. I have seen a few people on here using vegan glucosamine to help the lining of the bladder and so I purchased this one Glucosamine 1500 - Caruso's Natural Health | Health care products | Health food store | Herbal Supplements .

I have noticed after having another look around online that the glucosamine people are using contains Glucosamine Hydrochloride or n-acetyl d-glucosamine as opposed to Glucosamine Sulfate Sodium Chloride, which is in the product that I have. I just wanted to check if anyone on here would be able to confirm that this is safe for me to use on Lola.

Thank you in advance :)

Hi!

I have used glucosamine sulphate in the past but found n-acetyl to be more efficient, this is what is in Feliway Cystease capsule. My sow has been on these a while and they have helped, she has chronic bladder inflammation.

I'd suggest having a urine sample sent off for culture to see if there's any persistent infection; as well as checking for crystals in the urine. If those are ruled out then glucosamine and a low calcium
Diet would be the next step.

Hi Adelle!
Thank you for your reply!
Okay yeah that seems to be consistent with everything else I have read.
We have had the urine sent off and completed a course of Bactrim just to be safe. We did an ultrasound the other week and there was bladder sludge and some thickening of the bladder wall. I have been syringing fluids and feed cucumber and a low calcium diet etc. Which I am pretty sure has been helping to flush some of it out.
I will give her the glucosamine I have here until I can get my hands on the other one and hopefully that will help! :)

The one I use is hydrochloride. I didn't know there was a difference though.
