So to encourage my baby guinea pigs (6/7 weeks) to feel comfortable during lap time, I've been feeding them veggies throughout the whole time until I put them back. Now I realize this might not have been the best thing because if I put them on my lap, they immediately expect veggies and they'll keep calling for it until I put them back in the cage. How do I dissociate the 2 things (food/lap time)?

Try to have some play time (short at first by necessity) and then give them a treat when back in the cage. You can extend lap time gradually as they get used to not being fed on the lap anymore. Be encouraging and praise them for not begging. Use some piggy whispering to tell them that you love them.

Hello! Welcome to the forum, so nice to have you join us.

be great to some some photos of your piggies.

We give a little veg as a treat at laptime but not much. Decrease the amount you give at laptime, they are creatures of habit but do forget.....

You could try giving them hay instead of veg. At least then they aren't getting too much veg. My pigs think that hand fed hay is much tastier than the big pile in the corner lol
