Unless I am dealing with a very ill piggy, I don't feed throughout the night. I have been syringe feeding one piggy or another, for about 12 years now. You can't keep up night feeds for that long!
I know it kills you in the end. I done one for a month getting up all hours. I almost got sacked from my job

I can syringe feed up to four piggies at the same time. I get as much food in during the day, but I have to get my sleep, as I work a lot of hours during the day. I am currently syringe feeding Hettie and Biscuit, but as it is school holidays, I have about 8 hours pet feeding work throughout the day. Then on top of that I am trying to get sorted for our event on Saturday and looking after the day to day care of the TEAS piggies and studying for my Advanced Diploma too. I haven't got to the gym for a few weeks though! :-(

Blimey you are a very busy person! And I thought I had a lot to do!

How's Dot doing today?
Shes taken all veg when i was asleep and the lights were out. She has taken kale this morning and some carrot. I managed to get her to play tug of war last night with a thick piece if hay. Its something i always done with her when she was like 3 months old.

What do you reccomend i do with syringe feeding. How little and how often?

How come you dont like the 15ml syringes. I couldnt go back to the 1ml's now for cc. I just pack all the cc in the top of the 15ml tube and dont have to keep sucking cc up.
I hate them...I find it difficult to gauge how much you are syringing in at a time and I worry that the piggy can asperate if you give too much. With a 1 ml syringe, you can syringe in the whole amount and then as the piggy is swallowing it down, you refill. I guess it's what we get used to. I have some great 1 ml syringes, that last for ages and just make it all so easy.

If Dot is eating quite a lot for herself, then I would be inclined to just top her up morning and night, whilst keeping a close eye on her weight. If weight starts to drop, then up the syringe feed slightly.

:agr:I found the 1ml syringes much easier. Christian couldn't get the hang of the 15ml syringes and he preferfed the 1ml ones too.

Does she live on her own? I find lone piggies tend not to move around so much anyway. Keep offering her little bits of veg and if she doesn't seem to be eating much, give her a few mls of syringe food and then offer more veg. I found, when she was here, that she ate better after having a few mls of syringe food, so maybe that is the way to go.

I found that too. I have already syringed her. Yea she lives on her own. So does burnie. I am thinking of housing them next to each other so they can chat better. I just took burnie over to her and she was wheeking away like crazy and climbing up for him. She has veg in there. She has definitly picked up now shes seen burnie.

Also when I am wanting to encourage them to eat, I don't give them a hidey house all the time, as often they just hide away. I give one some of the time, but at other times I take it out.

I have just housed them next door to each other very close. Hopefuly dot will feed off of his energy

I have just read up about cystitis in guinea pigs. And dot is matching the symptoms exactly. It sais it can take 3 weeks or more to resolve. Simon said the lump kim felt had gone down when they felt it a week after the first examination. So maybe we are getting somewhere. I'm tempted to try some cranberry juice

They didnt take a urine sample because her bladder was empty so i dont know if zythromax is the right drug. But it does seem to be working

Sorry to keep posting. But has anyone had any experience with treating cystitis in guinea pigs? I find it strange that my vet said it could be cystitis. But just said carry on with what zythromax you have left. Which isnt alot.

I dont know weva i can call up tomorrow and order more. Or try a different antibiotic . I dont want another consultation fee and stress dot out again taking her to the vets.

Any home remedies? If anyone has got a pig through this. I would be very interested in what you did to knock it out. I understand that she could not have cystitis. But its worth a shot at treating her like she has

Just an update on where i am with dot. So i had to go back to work today, meaning i had to leave dot from 5:30am until about 6pm.my wife has gone on a day holiday with her friend. I was very worried.

Got back to find dot hadnt done badly atall. She isnt her normal self still. She still lays a bit with her legs spread behind her in discomfort. And still raising bum to poo. But i havnt seen any blood since shes been on zythromax antibiotic and loxicom painkiller.

The only thing I'm concerned about is shes staying the same. Not really showing any signs of getting better. I do notice when i dont syringe feed her she does seem more normal, but she does have to keep taking breaks and laying down because of this lump on her bladder wall.

I dont know what to do next. She has been on zythromax for about 2 weeks now. And i have got a second bottle now.from my vets simon. Should instill be keeping her on it? Simon didnt seem to say not to when i called up and ordered it

Did Simon say anything about Probiotics at all as she is on long term antibiotics?

My piggies always lift there bottom when they want a poo & also lay on there tummies with there legs spread out behind. To me that's normal.
