Hi, so I'm in the process of making fleece bedding. I want to make the ones where you sandwich the absorbent material inbetween two layers of fleece so it's easy to change and wash altogether. I have heard that mattress covers are a good option, would you all agree? And can someone recommend some for me, I live in the UK. I know they have to be 100% cotton but does it have to have a waterproof layer as part of the mattress cover? Would that mean the urine would wick through the fleece and be absorbed by the cotton mattress cover and then be prevented from going further and wicking through the bottom layer of fleece? Thank you!

I use the mattress protectors that are 100% cotton and look a bit like felt.
If you sandwich them in between 2 layers of fleece then it is better not to get one with a waterproof layer.
If you don't have a waterproof layer this also means the liner is reversible.

I have made some with the water proof side, so it keeps the wet in and they have been great but I now have to big piggos who have pushed them to the limit and I found just fleece works the same, I got mine from Wilko's. Our city is very studenty so in September our Wilko's is full of cheap bedding!

The boys’ liners have waterproof mattress protectors inside, and it’s sandwiched between fleece. It works well for me. The girls have just the protector then a fleece on top (not sewn together). I got the protectors from B&M and Tesco.

I use a waterproof mattress protector and a fleece placed on top and they aren't sewn together. The run is in the garage and underneath the mattress protector I have an offcut of kitchen vinyl flooring as otherwise it would be straight onto concrete and that would be too cold for my piggies little feetsies.
