Going to have a GA and an x-ray. Hope he has the munchies when he wakes up. He's been only wanting to eat herbs and veg at the moment.

Love to McMac hope it goes ok x

Best of luck! I hope that you can get to the bottom of his problem.

Hope all goes well and you get the answers you need.

They found a stone :(

They are suggesting surgery. It's either that or continue with antibiotics etc. But that doesn't seem to be doing much good as it is anyway.

Oh man what do I do. I'm so scared of loosing him from the surgery...

If it was me I would have them remove the stone as the poor thing will be in pain as long as it is there. I know it is a difficult decision to make though.

I guess it's the only choice I have. I asked how successful the operation is and she said she's only lost one during the recovery period and all the rest have been successful. I am just worried about McMac in his weakened state

Aw honey, its a toughy, but always go down the route of i did all i could, for as long as the stone is there he will be in pain and slowly decline, or you could have the op done with a small chance he wont make it, and a bigger chance he will and then be pain free and happy again, they wouldn't operate if they thought it would be dangerous for him.

Alright, I will give them a call. Your right. Better try and go for it rather then let him suffer any longer.

Mum and George are going to try and help with the costs. Hopefully it wont be too much. I will ask to see if they do a payment plan of any kind

We are going to go in and have a chat with them and see how he is doing.

It's so upsetting knowing he is unwell and is going to need surgery :(

Aww poor McMac :( but at least you know now.

I to think that surgery is the best option in this case. McMac is still young and healthy. A vet wouldn't operate on an unhealthy pig. Yes, there are risks but if you Leave him, he will be in pain, uncomfortable and he would eventually become immune to the antibiotics if he were to stay on them indefinitely.

Most vets do not advertise it but are able to offer a payment plan if you explain the situation.

Do your vets do this surgery often? If they've done it 100 times and only lost 1 pig, that's a 99% success rate. If they've only done it twice and lost one, that's a 50% success rate.

thank you everyone. I went in to see him and talk to the vet. she showed me the xray and the stone was reasonably sized. not huge, but enough to cause problems and block his bladder. I went to see him and he seems to be doing well after the GA. they were nice enough to go find some grass and stuff and he instantly starting chomping away as soon as she put it in front of him. which is great as at least it is something.

I have been thinking of maybe changing and either reducing or completely removing pellets from their det as I hear that can be a big factor in stones etc.

we eventually agreed to surgery, it will be tomorrow at around mid day.

i think you have done the right thing going ahead with surgery. it seems the only option really, as the stone could cause more problems if left alone. then surgery would be the only option anyway probably if it's too big to pass by itself. i really hope everything goes well.

Sorry to read this. Hoping all goes well in surgery for beautiful McMac. Hugs to you x

Hope it goes well for the little guy. Maggie had surgery today, she's come through it much better than I anticipated...phew!

Good luck for tomorrow I'm sure your boy will make a great recovery, my Junior went in for bladder stone surgery 3 weeks ago even though he lost about 150g and was really thin i had faith in him hes a fighter and now he feels like a new man lol :)

Am sorry that McMac has a stone but glad you have a diagnosis, hope all goes well tomorrow. If you need information on the best diet for a pig who has had a stone let me know as the lady I help at piggy clinic is very knowledgable on bladder issues and my pigs are on a bladder friendly diet.

Thank you everyone. Fingers crossed for the wee guy. I am sure he will be fine...but you know, can't help but worry like a mother.

Poor Sprout is missing McMac. Keeps calling out for him and stuff.

Aww Sprout will need lots of cuddles. I really hope all goes well tomorrow.

Poor McMac! You are doing the right thing, what else can you do! Wishing him lots of love x
