hi I only have the one pig (frowned upon I know) she only seems interested in spinach cucumber and bell peppers. If there no spinach she eats less and gets really grumpy! Is this normal. She might sniff or nibble other food and then just off? Had her about 5 months

My two are like that with salad. Only waitrose babyleaf is good enough for princes Poldark and Sage....

Have you tried feeding her things that look like spinach but aren't spinach? x

She'll go for iceberg lettuce sometime maybe I should mix it in and slowly add more ? She hated chard! I swear she sulked for like 2 days and barely ate anything, but who likes chard

leaf might work actually ! posh waitrose piggies

:wel: to the forum .

Lone guinea pigs can be very fussy eaters . Would you consider getting her a companion ?

To be honest had experienced with two pets , hamsters and birds and rats, and only the rats were seemed happy with humans around, when I had one bird it was fine so i thought one pig would be fine and she is, plus I only really have time to now to give attention to one. We have hamster which is off its nut and soon to have another very opinionated rabbit in the mix. But I've always wanted a guinea pig and my girlfriend has a rabbit. Love that pig now though !

Mine go nuts for spinach too, but they also like gem lettuce, parsley, rocket, spring greens, chard, celery. Anything leafy and green usually goes down well! Apart from cabbage, they turn their noses up at that. They like the trunk bits of broccoli and cauliflower too.

Spinach is very high in calcium and too much calcium can lead to bladder stones - so I would be wary of giving more than 2 or 3 leaves a day - (a owner of a 4 year old boar who has had a kidney stone and bladder stones that required two operations)

Hello and :wel:

Can I just give you some advice with regards to her diet. You should not give piggies iceberg lettuce because it has no nutritional value and can cause an upset tummy and diarrhoea.

If you want advice on what are the best veges to feed her you should click on the food section and in the sticky threads is a recommended and balanced diet for piggies thread by Wiebke which should really help.

There is a lot of extremely useful information in different sections which should be very useful in the early days.

Good luck xx

I fully admit that Sparkles was an absolute joy when he was on his own. He was always talking to me. We'd actually have a conversation together!
ME: Hey buddy!
Sparkles: Squeak, squeak!
ME: Howya doing?
Sparkles: Squeak squeak
ME: *Makes guinea pig noises*
Sparkles: SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!

Now that he has his Ida, all he says is "BRRRRRRR" :lol!:

:D Looking at the above post from piggies point of view;

You: Hey Buddy!
Sparkles: What? Speak "Pig", man!
You: Howya doing?
Sparkles: Can't understand a word.
You: *Makes guinea pig noises. *
Sparkles: Oh my god, she speaks "Pig"!

Sparkles: BRRRRR Go away. I don't need you any more!

have you tried her on a small amount of white calliflower

:D Just keep offering different veg and greens (NOT iceberg lettuce as Caron's Cavies has said) and she will try them eventually.
