Pigging Out

Glad Carson is a bit better.
Take care of yourselves too.
Don’t worry about what you’re going to eat, or when, just have what you want when you want.
Things will settle down.
Hugs 🤗

Carson passed away at around 11pm. 😭💔

At around 6-7pm while hubby was feeding him, I noticed that his stomach is getting bigger and he was having this little pain whimpers, which made me so worried and start crying. We decided to have a drive around the country side to get more mobility movement for him. At around 9pm, hubby phoned the emergency vets coz he was splat on the floor in their cage. He moved from his fleece bed to the box next to Bodie and Bodie sniffed him a few times before going to his hay to eat. By around 10pm, we were at the vets and they did an xray. It showed that his whole stomach is full of gas and all his poops were stuck in the intestines. He wasn't passing any of it and not weeing even after giving him emeprid. Only 3 tiny very hard poops managed to get out while hubby was on the phone to the emergency vets. So while we were talking to the vet after the xray and trying to arrange what to do next, Carson was twitching a lot and I knew it was the end. By the time the vet took him to the back, after around 5-10 mins, he came out and said that Carson passed away while they were preparing to do the procedure.

This breaks my heart so much. He was very healthy (apart from having cataracts due to type 2 diabetes, which was all managed), happy and always wheeking for food two weeks ago. He was the happiest piggy we've had, always zooming and popcorning for no reason. Bodie even at times get away from him because he was such a cuckoo. Hubby and I are not very happy on how this happened. He sent an email earlier to the boarders about everything. Carson was only 2 yrs and 4 months approx. He wasn't supposed to die this early in our minds because he was full of life. 💔😭

Bodie has said his goodbyes to Carson, sniffed him 2x. But to be honest, I don't think he is bothered at the moment as he was eating grass next to him. We don't know yet what we'll do with Bodie. We did say that both Bodie and Carson will be our last piggies. If Bodie will be fine being alone, we don't know.

I’m so sad to read this
I don’t know what to say …..I’d thought Carson might improve
Sending love to you all
Popcorn freely at RB Sweet Carson ….meeting all the lovely piggies that went before

I'm so sorry. Poor Carson, imo, not being looked after properly by the carer and look at what it's led to. 😭 May I be angry at the carer/boarder on your behalf? I've looked after people's guineas before tho not a professional boarder in any way. You do what's expected in looking after guineas, you see a vet before it gets to the stage you collected Carson in! If you can't handle a guinea becoming unwell while boarding then maybe you shouldn't board or not so many guineas?

Carson RIP, over at rainbow 🌈 bridge, running and munching and playing with the other guineas. No more pain.

Poor you and your H @anyar.dris
I'm really sorry, you tried so hard the past few days to save Carson. Only 2 years old! Gone far too young. I'm sending hugs and support.

About Bodie, he may be less nonchalant than it looks. He would have known that Carson was dying before it became apparent to you, he would have smelled it, sensed it, and so he would have said his goodbyes already in whatever form. I don't think it necessarily means he doesn't need piggie company going forward. But you don't have to decide that now, it sounds as if he will be OK for the next few weeks.
So keep looking after you in whatever form that takes.

Thank you all so much. ❤️

Hubby is preparing all documents. He's prepared to take this into small claims court. If the boarder wasn't fiddling with their weights chart, we could've have been more understanding of the situation. We know that there is a risk of leaving them to someone else, but she agreed to all our requests everytime. We provided her with everything, i.e. our own weighing scales, loxicom, critical care, in case it will all be needed. But she didn't even do the one thing that would have seen any problems in the first place. She wasn't weighing them and then writing a weight that was not real in the charts. We could've helped her on what needed to be done even from afar. We were always online and ready to be contacted. She was telling us that their weights were all good and doing great. The first time we board with her, Carson had developed a skin issue and she was very proactive with it, contacting us and doing what we told her to do. She was even ready to take him to the vets if needed. She updated us constantly with photos. I don't know what happened this year for her to stop doing that. Bodie and Carson was the only boarders when we dropped them off 2 weeks ago. And from her Facebook posts there was only another 2 guinea pigs and a rabbit that arrived during these 2 weeks.

Carson suffered unnecessarily and that's what is heartbreaking and what's making us angry.

Hi @anyar.dris it’a Abbie here from Merrypigs, where you adopted Bodie from.

How awful for you. We trust our beloved fur babies with these people and for this to happen is heartbreaking. At least he was back with you at home, but take it all the way if you can! People need to know not to trust this person.

If you need anything with regards to Bodie then please do get in touch - there’s no rush to decide what you want to do, and he is always welcome back here if that is what you think best 💔

Thank you Abbie. I just feel sorry for Bodie because he lost a companion again. We will have to monitor him for the time being. You'll be our first contact for whatever we have to do with regards to Bodie. He's a great piggy. We will always do what's best for him. ❤️❤️ He lost some weight too while at the boarders. From 1370 grams to 1306grams when we picked him up. I weighed him this morning and he's back up to 1356 grams.

Standing with you.
Absolute agree with your post and with taking it to small claims court if need be.

Who knows what happened this year? Bad phase, personal problems, couldn't be bothered? But part of my point is that a boarder shouldn't take on animals if they don't feel up to the full care for whatever reason. Said by someone who is often not up to many things. And has learned not to embark on them.

It's so horrible for you and your H because you went on holiday and thought you could trust this boarder with your precious guineas.
😭

I am so sorry this is such a horrible thing to happen to you and your poor guinea pigs.
There's no rush to make decisions about Bodie, take your time while you come to terms with what has happened and grieve for Carson. Sending you, your husband and Bodie my best wishes.

Poor little fella, he is a smashing pig isn’t he? Must have been not great at all there for him to lose weight as I remember him as a bit of a foodie! Glad he’s put it back on though 👍 Keep in touch, you know where we are ❤️
