I don’t know if this is the thread I should post on but my guinea pigs are 5 years old and we’ve had them for a few months now. Adopted them from our local petsmart they had been in a neglectful home. I don’t know if it’s the new environment or if they just flat lied to us but they’ve been far from bonded. They are constantly fighting and at first I brushed it off as a dominance thing but it has gotten pretty bad. We’ve separated them as of 3 days ago and they only have contact when having outside time or play time with us. Before we separated them they had 2 huge fights which scared me to the point I said enough is enough they are separated by a metal screen and glass so they can still see and smell each other. I don’t know what to do we tried reintroducing today and it was the same thing if it’s not one it’s the other. Pls any advice
Pics of one eye, bloodshot red
And other idek blood in nose and blisters? On mouth

Unfortunately, once they’ve decided they don’t like each other, you can’t change their minds. They may be able to live happily alongside each other as long as they don’t fight through the divider, or climb over it.

I am not an expert (I’m sure one will respond soon), but if that was my guinea pig with the bloodshot eye I would take it to the vet. Eye infections occur easily and if they have been fighting multiple times it would probably be a good idea for them both to be checked over.

A change of environment will have caused them to have to re-establish their territories which will have caused some bickering but in this case might have caused a complete fall out, unfortunately pet shops also like to lie to people just to sell animals so it is also entirely possible they were never bonded.
Also, if they are boars, they will require a bit more space than sows and pet shops (and pet shop cages) rarely provide this.

Thank you, will be making a bet appointment! They are boars and we made the mistake of keeping them in a pet store cage for about a week then moved them into a free roaming area in our room which is about 10 foot long and 4 feet wide, we put the divider down the middle and fortunately neither have fought or made it over YET!

I agree. Sadly once they decide they don’t like each other and have an actual fight they can never be together again.

Changing environment (ie bringing them home or changing their cage) can bring issues to the surface so even if they were all but bonded before, the change in territory can cause things to break down.

Please do see a vet urgently for the eye issue. They always need to be dealt with within 24 hours as eyes deteriorate quickly

Sounds like they have loads of space then!
