Hi guys, she's bleeding from somewhere around her eye, I have to take her to the vets this afternoon, they're not that GP savvy, but at this point have no other options. I know there's no infection, she's been treated for mild conjunctivitis recently, and that's cleared up.
I thought eye's don't bleed? That's what the vet told me last time, i'm so confused.. what pain relief should I ask them to offer her? She's fine in herself, eating veg, nuggets, hay, timothy hay, drinking water, etc. Her eyes are bright..

hope it goes well
from experience i would say that metacam is a very good pain relief

It's been one thing after another with her lately, she's been to the vets 4 times in the last couple of months.. Her eye gets better, than a few weeks later, something else goes wrong.. shy of having her eye removed (last resort), I really don't know what to do 8...

It is such a worry. I guess her eye being removed will sole any problems is it causing. You are doing the right thing.

Awww my poor liquorice me and my furry brood are sending her healing vibes hope she is better soon and he eye improves :) x

Lots of healing vibes to Liquorice x

The vet says the infection is in the eye itself :( she's on Baytril as an oral antibiotic and eye drops.. another 7 days and she goes back for a check up, lets hope her eye improves before then, cos it's looking likely she may loose it if it doesn't :'( She's such a brave piggy, took a her medicine in disgust, refused broccoli (must taste bad!) at first, so gave her spinach which she ate, then turned round to eat the broccoli! She's gained weight since the last visit, and the vet reckons she's not in pain, as she's eating normally and not squinting her eye..
Her eye looks a mess at the moment, but apart from disliking me bathing it, she's otherwise bright in herself, just looking for ways to get out of taking meds and getting her eye bathed.. I did ask about metacam, the vet said it's not worth giving her, as its an anti-inflammatory and pain killer, where as she needs antibiotics.. can any one recommend another antibiotic she could take along side metacam? The eye drops are suspensory, Fucithalmic Vet..

You know I think having her eye removed could be the best solution. It means no more pain and problems for her. Having one eye does not disable a guinea pig in any way. My Marble had her eye removed and it finally gave her some time without pain.

I am very sorry your little one is so poorly. She sounds so brave.

Crafty monkey spat out her medicine this morning.. all over my hand!:)) Not impressed!
Had her out last night with Treacle... they both ran riot around the flat! She seems bright in herself, though not happy about having probiotic powder on her nuggets (she won't drink it)... she's a stubborn patient!
Her eye seems 'slightly' better this morning, though it seems to go through stages of looking better, looking worse.. atm it looks more comfortable..

I've been looking through the Guinea Pig Lynx, and not one photo of poorly eyes matches hers.. she always had a slightly smaller eye any way, atm it's watery and a discoloured discharge, but better than before treatment started..

:)) typical!

Hoping you should see some improvement soon, hopefully the drops and Baytril will sort out the infection. x

oh noo poor little Liquorice!

HEALING AND LOVING WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKS FROM US ALL XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Many piggies on here have had eyes removed........ Marble as you know and Claire (Debbie's little girl did too) all successful!

Try mixing the probiotics in water and syringing.....dip the end of the syringe in a bit of juice to trick her tho (sorry baby girl but it's for your own good!) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

She was 'bullying' Humbug this morning (If they're in the same space, she'll tell Humbug to get out! Humbug is a big wus and sounds like a squeaky dog toy lol!), now that is normal, she likes her home comforts, does Liquorice :))
I've left her with a broccoli floret to nibble (she begged for that and went up on her haunches for it!) they're like a pack of hungry Hyena's at treat time :))
I can't believe the eye's causing no pain, she's acting completely normal, eating and drinking, running around, into everything.. the vet has told me I can get some metacam if she does need it, so I have that to fall back on, but i'll see how she goes on over the next couple of days, I may take her back before Friday for an early check up..

I think she's had the probiotics, half the bowl of nuggets has gone, so must be getting used to the taste.. eye was gunly again tonight, just waiting for the saline fluid (boiled salt water) to cool down enough for me to clean it up, then applying the drops.. Will let her have a run out again later, with Humbug this time..
Got a hole in one with the Baytril tonight, closely followed by spinach! :))

Eye looked clearer after cleaning up, still along way from being right, but seemed more normal looking than yesterday. I have a feeling they're going to have to do tests on her eye to find out what triggered it, as although we'll get her eye better, there's always a chance it could come back, so I want to know what we're tackling..

Eye wasn't anything like as gunky this morning, no dark discharge.. but the baytril is taking effect on her appetite despite probiotics :( she's on .4 mls.. She's eating hay and timothy hay, but I haven't seen her at the nuggets this morning or drinking either (no probiotics in water, don't want her to stop drinking in retaliation to the taste).. decided to syringe probiotics this morning, and remove from nuggets as may be reason she's not eating them (yes, she can be a madam about funny tasting food).. she really isn't enjoying this med..
On a plus side her weight is still stable, so maybe she's eating secretly when I'm not watching..

Guess who was guarding the food bowl tonight! :(|)
Her eye isn't crusty tonight, no dark discharge apparent, she looked happier in herself, little does she know, i'm waiting for the salt water to cool, then she'll get her meds.. Going to give her a syringe of fruit juice (baby juice) to take off the taste of the baytril, and the probiotics..

Now with pictures and video!

I've just cleaned her eye, hence face wet, no sign of brownish discharge at all, so I think we're finally going some where..
Positive note: She hasn't been letting me document her bad eye, she'll either shut it, or turn away, she wasn't bothered at all tonight, didn't even squint, so guess there is no pain on going..

awwwwwwwwwww little sweetie x)
Whee have all our paws crossed for dear Liquorice XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
