Rushing Liquorice to the vets!

For the first time since the vet visit on Monday, i'm cautiously optimistic we may get a better outcome than I hoped.. she's sat on my lap, 1 hour post eye drop, and her eye isn't half as watery as it has been, she's now comfortably resting her head on my lap and gurgling contently in her fav place :))

I am so happy to hear how much she has improved! This is wonderful. It may be she does not need to lose her eye after all.

She's started to accept the probiotics in the syringe, sniffed it and took, so that's one battle won! Her eye was closed this morning, but no nasty discharge, just had watered too much and stuck shut. Bathed her eye, and it was a lot better..
She kept trying to wander off to get at the broccoli, so I let her eat whilst I did her eye..
Her appetite seems better today, I bought a garden mint plant yesterday (one out in the garden is beyond help) as it's known for it's tummy soothing properties, and she had a leaf last night.. other piggies adore it, just a whiff sends them into a frenzy :(|)
Edited to add, she now lifts her front feet when I go to pick her up, she's so accepting of what I have to do :rose

Good girl! Thanks for the update x

I put the probiotic on a slice of cucumber as it saves them having to have something else syringe. It is amazing she lifts her little feet up so you can lift her up. It shows how much she trusts you.

Eye's open tonight, a bit sticky, just waiting for the salt water to cool.. she looks fairly content - I dipped my finger in the baby juice.. it has no taste! No wonder she looked at me so confused this morning!

Awwwww brilliant :) so pleased that Liquorice is on the mend :)

She's sat on my lap licking my fingers (her fav pastime :))) Her eye is a lot more open tonight, and is starting to look more like the good eye :) There's a blemish near the middle of the eye, which I suspect may be the cause of this.. it's so nice to see her deep chocolate iris again -c

ahhhhhh Liquorice is sounds like you're helping yourself to get better !
Isn't she a darling popping her little footsies on your hand x)

GET WELL LIQUORICE XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Every time I went to give her the baytril she'd licked me on the nose as if to say "PLEASE! don't give me that!".. :))

Home early so bathed eye, will give baytril later.. she's getting really grumpy about the eye drops, guess she's impatient for her eye to get better.. her eye is open, looks like this morning, so not worse, so that's a good thing! She licked me on the nose after, think that was a "Thanks for not giving me that yucky stuff".. if she only knew :x

I'd say her eye is almost fully open today, if I look from in front, it has almost the same circumference as the good eye. She managed to duck the syringe, so I had to go and refill it (clever pig!).. She could smell the cucumber and kept creeping off between eye wipes to try and get to it :))
I give her a leaf of mint a day for her tummy which she devours with haste :)
The others are like smell seeking missiles, and just one piece of this sets them all off! :))
I think she's gained weight, shall weigh her later, now was that supposed to happen? She's been a steady 1060g, although did drop slightly to 990g about a month ago.. I reckon she's about 1070g atm..

She sounds like she is improving every day. It is a great sign she has even managed to get her weight back up.

Glad to hear she is doing well x

Back for a check up tomo.. I wish I could say her eye was 100% better, but then i'd be lying to myself. There IS some improvement, her eye is now almost fully open, but still weeps a bit of congealed white stuff (not sure what that is ? Maybe drops as they're white) from time to time, though now no crustiness.. Have to say though, the on going weeping may be irritation from something within, so going to ask the vet for Metacam, to see if that stops the weeping, either way though, will have to investigate further.. she might just need another week of baytril and drops..
Came home from work yesterday, expecting her eye to be in desperate need of a bath as been up since 5am as working early shift, and been out for over 12 hours.. But it was no where near what I expected.. she now hates the eye drops, tries to shrug the drop out of her eye, I had to refill her syringe this morning as she dodged the baytril...
In her cage, she was positively popping, something I haven't seen for over a year, she's never been a popcorning piggie, though decidedly was this morning.. is this the actions of a piggy feeling happier, better?
On another positive note, she's really getting the hang of snacking after baytril, had pak choi tonight as her 'being good' treat :))

She must be feeling a lot better to popcorn. What a wonderful sign. Do you feel she is in pain as metcam is for pain relief?

I some times see her partially close the eye, she did this on Sunday night, and a couple of times since.. I want to see if there is pain involved, then I'll have something more substantial to work from..
She looking at me right now (sat on my lap) and both her eye's look virtually the same from in front with the same bog eyed look :)) (Sorry, got that piggy from bedtime story in my head!).. She is now 3, and i'm wondering whether her good eye is actually more prominent than it used to be due to age, and maybe that makes her bad eye look smaller.. (I can see the whites of her left eye but not her right, if you know what I mean?).. her eye lids look normal now..

I can understand why you may feel she needs pain relief. You can always try it and see if she changes at all with regards to closing her eye.

She's just been 'investigating' the bedroom with her 'sister' Treacle.. when I sat on the floor with them, they came running over and wandering around me.. they're such a pair :)

The fact they will come over to you is lovely. Mine would never do that!

If I kneel on the floor and rest my elbows on the floor, they use me as a tunnel lol!:)) I know I shouldn't have favorites, but Liquorice just struck a chord with me.. she was such nervous wreck as a baby, now she'll sit for hours on my lap content, long gone is the guinea pig who thought she was a lemming :<>
I some times spend hours with them just running loose on the floor, all 4 of my girls are like this :) But not on the same scale as Liquorice :)
I shamelessly spoil them (got no kids, so I guess their a substitute :))

You clearly have a lovely and special bond with her. You must have worked very hard for her to have overcome her shyness and be so confident with you.

She was a tough nut to crack, but after the third time of bolting off the sofa and bouncing off the guitar, I felt I had to desensitize her, with cuddles and she spent a lot of time living down my jumpers :))
You really can turn a timid piggy round, takes a lot of time and patience, but it's worth it ;) I've had loads over the years, and managed a good bond with all of them :)

You are so right. It has taken me a year to get Amina to sit on my knee without flinching everytime I touch her!
