Rushing Liquorice to the vets!

The swelling around the tear duct is much less obvious today, looks more normal than it's been of late, we have about 24 hours now before she's due to go back, and about 2-3 days left of voltarol.. we're at a crucial stage now, do I give her until Monday, then take her? Means re-arranging appointments, but the vet and I did discuss leaving the appoint another few days if she's doing well.

I would take her anyway just so the vet can see her progress. I am so pleased to hear how much she is improving.

Well she's lost about .7kg in 4 weeks, which is .2 (but she'd gone back to normal weight in between) less than when she dropped weight 8 weeks ago, but i'm putting that down to the stress of the vet visit last week, as she's bright and eating, her droppings have returned to a normal size, though she now hates broccoli..
She was relieved that the vet didn't start messing with her again, he's pleased with her progress, says her eyes much better, so we've decided to give her another course of volterol and see how she goes.. fingers crossed guys!
Any ideas of how to get weight back on her? I don't think she's at critical care stage just yet, but is there anything else that might help?

Has given her some ab-lib grass to nibble, and she and the gang are like flies to muck :)) She's on probiotics (again) to help her gut, and encourage her to eat more.. She's bright in herself, I don't think this vet visit has upset her quite as much as last time, I decided to handle her and just take the carrier along just in case, she seems to prefer that :)

Well she is really improving all the time. With antibiotics is does cause guinea pigs to lose weight. How are her poops? If they are normal then that is wonderful.

The one's I've seen have been normal, in fact they're the best i've seen in a few weeks :) They're out having garden time, she's stuffing her face. I've given more probiotics to help her tummy, and feel some time out just being a GP is needed..
We haven't booked another appointment at the vets as of yet, he seems to think it's going to be a control situation for her, but I can see major improvements compared to the last few visits.
The volterol is taking away any inflammation, so the antibiotic drops can get in the tear duct and flush out any remaining infection.. she has her eye fully open most of the time except when i bathe it, or put drops in. She then tries to 'hide' her eye.. But it's out fully within 5 mins of me leaving it alone.
She's taken to trying to run off when she see's the jug of saline solution or either of the drops:)) I think she's actually really bright and happy atm :)

Aww poor baby. She cannot understand why she needs the medication. How wonderful her poops are normal. It sounds like she is well on her way to recovery.

She's currently hogging the food bowl and the water bottle :)) Seems unaffected by the vet visit this morning, so I guess she prefers being held rather than the company of another guinea pig..

What a surprize.. woke up this morning to a guinea pig with out any sleep around her eye.. that's a first, she usually has a small bit of gunk, i wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's far better than it's been :)

Good stuff! C'mon Liquorice x

Her eating seems to be fine, but her droppings are varying a lot tonight, from normal to small.. My only guess is the treatment for her tear duct is working and the bad stuff is draining through the back of her nose, making her tummy a tad off. She's on probiotics, and has just been chasing me around the bedroom for a leaf of lettuce.
Her eye continues to improve, i'm bathing it less (3 times a day) she's still getting her drops twice a day.

It is a shame her poops are small but I guess that is to be expected with the nasty medication. She chased you? Ha ha that is funny!

I walked out of the kitchen, she was sat at the bedroom door waiting for me.. running around me feet squeaking her head off :))
I'm a bit worried about her droppings, but i'm glad i'm seeing some normal ones too, this is just a glitch, I hope.
I'm starting to wonder, how long should I treat her with the tiacil? She's been on it 10 days tomo.. I'll keep her on the volterol another few days..
Her tear duct has no sign of swelling after 12 hours.

Wow she is so brave! None of mine would come near me if I was standing up. I am not too sure about the medication. How about calling the vet and asking?

I'm just a bit worried it's messing her tummy up, she's bright in herself, and i feel as though we've got over another hurdle, but i'm concerned about long term use of tiacil in guinea pigs, my past experience with her on it, is after a week it caused the eye ball to overreact and over heal (lets call it proud flesh) but left alone it would recover, this hasn't happened this time, but I think that's because the puncture wound she had, has completely healed this time.
I'll give them a ring in the morning and see what they say, but I may have to wait until Monday.

Would you try and stop it and see what happens? You can always continue it again.

I think i'll carry on the voltarol and the bathing, I personally think the infection has gone, I just hope i'm right. I'm off at the moment, so can monitor her hourly during the day :)

Oh nice to be off so you can take care of her and observe her more. I really hope the infection has gone. Poor baby had a very nasty infection.

I just wish these medications were not so harsh for their little tummies. It is very difficult when it comes to having to give them anything.

Nearly all the human meds we take have those side effects... no win situation.. guess I have to hope the probiotics keep the deli belly away for her :))

I use fibre first which is a paste. Poor Peronel was sick of it though as I had to put it on cucumber for her to take three times a day.
