Hello, I'm new to this forum and have joined due to terrible circumstances.

I suddenly and unexpectedly lost my two female piggies this morning, Willow and Buttercup. They were both rescues and were 2 years old and we took them to the vet when we first rescued them for a check up and they got a seal of approval from the vet. They had a 2x6 C&C cage with a 2x2 loft that was cleaned twice a week, Kaytee timothy hay, oxbow essential timothy pellets, fresh water and veggies daily. I don't know what could have happened I woke up this morning to feed them and they had both passed away. They were perfectly fine just last night when it was floor time and there had been no changes in their food or water intake.

This is just so confusing and heartbreaking, I can't understand how they both passed away. If anyone could shed any light on this or has any ideas as to what could've happened I would be greatly appreciative.

Omg that is so awful I can only imagine how devastating it must be to have lost 2 piggies. Do you have a vet you could call? Maybe you could bring them in and he could take a look or do necropsy? I would be worried they both are something they shouldn't have.

I am ever so sorry! What a shock for you!

My first thought if they are indoors piggies is to have your house checked for a gas leak or some environmental factor if you don't have a large pet like a dog etc.. One guinea pig can suddenly and unexpectedly die from a heart attack or a stroke at all ages, but not two at the same time. if there are no marks, then gas, sudden fright or poisoning are your most likely options. Illness won't kill that quickly without any symptoms.

You are welcome to post a tribute to your two girls if and whenever it feels right for you in our Rainbow Bridge section. you are very obviously a caring piggy mummy!
