Okay so, Saturday I got these two adorable male teddy guinea pigs (2 months old) my friend named them Gandolf and Bartelby.

They're not that scared of me: they take food/treats off my hand and dare to come out when I'm in the room.

The problem is, Bartelby is the shyer one and doesn't come out as mush as Gandolf do. And when Gandolf takes some food and brings it in the hidey (where Bartelby is too) Bartel is stealing the food from Gandolf, and he makes that sound that means like "I feel my self in danger" (high pitch squeak, kinda like a bird noise) and they start a small fight everytime.

Bartel also makes that "stay away from me" sound almost everytime Gano steps in the same hidey as Bartel is and again a small fight.

This happends EVERY time and I just don't know how to stop it. They got 2 hideys but most of the time they're in the same together. I feel like Bartel is being pretty mean to Gand.

Like while I was writing this I gave them four mandarin pieces. Gand took one and Bartel came a little out and told Gond to leave. That really scares me and makes me kinda sad. :(

Gandolf is such a happy little boy and doesn't deserve such a mean brother. I really wanna stop that and hope that someone can help me somehow.
Thank you for your attention and time.

(The boys still play sometimes but Bartelby is harassing Gandolf pretty often)

I haven't got boars but to me this sounds like pretty normal behaviour. As long as there are no serious fights where blood is being drawn then they should be fine. It's just part of being a guinea pig. I have two sows and they were a bit like this for the first 2-3 weeks I had them. Now they are fine. Best of luck!

Oooh I see. Well BIG thank you! I'm a new guinea pig owner and I've never heard of it. I was really scared! But is it normal I'm that it happends really often?

Hi and welcome!

Please be aware that your boys are currently in the process of establishing a working group in new territory, which can take around two weeks. Chucking the underpiggy out of a hidey or off a bowl and general throwing the weight around is typical for this phase.

Unfortunately you have to sit this out. It is NOT 'mean' behaviour - guinea pigs are group animals that live a strictly hierarchical society in which each subgroup has their own territory; this is at the very core at their social interaction and is the basis on which they bond and have a relationship. Unlike you, the boys know what they are about. You just can't apply human notions of political correctness to another species. You can NEVER make piggies become friends, the same way that telling two siblings to stop squabbling and to love each other won't exactly work. ;)
