The Pigglingtons

Waiting for a call from the vet. Timmy is having an xray to check for stones. The vet thinks more likely cystitis as he didn't react to palpitation. I was offered the choice of treating as cystitis for a week and see how he goes but with Christmas coming and everything shutting down I'd rather know it's not stones now than have an emergency over the holiday.

Hope it's not stones 🤞🙏 Sending lots of healing vibes to Timmy 💓

No stones or sludge, the bladder looks good. They did discover very early stage arthritis in his spine and knees though, so another one on long term Metacam and 4Joints! He also has mild bloat, so I am to continue with syringe feeding, Cystease and Metacam for the suspected cystitis.
Whilst not brilliant I'm relieved it's not stones!

He's still spaced out from the GA. I managed to get one syringe feed into him when we got home but rather than try to get him out of the cage again (not easy!) I put a bowl of the food by his house in the hope he would eat it. Freddie has enjoyed it very much! Oh well back to trying to out smart Timmy.

Timmy has lost more weight but he was at the vets for several hours yesterday and had a GA so not really surprising. I've managed 4 syringe feeds today. We have had an internet engineer here drilling holes in the walls this afternoon so all piggies were traumatised! We were told it was just a case of plugging wires into the existing boxes so we hadn't made up cages in the shed to move them. It turned out we needed to be rewired with new everything, such bad timing. All but Timmy are now out of hiding eating hay, I'm going to leave Timmy for a few hours to settle, probably best to miss a feed today than upset him any more. I can get one more feed in later.

Struggling a bit with Timmy, he's so hard to get out of the cage and he is fighting the syringe, fighting the medication and getting stressed, stressed is something he doesn't need with cystitis! I'm trying very hard not to get stressed, thinking calm thoughts whilst persuading him he really wants this syringe in his mouth. I am supposed to go away Christmas morning but he needs to put on more weight for me to do that. At least he's stopped squeaky weeing and his urine is absolutely clear. I know this because I sit him on a white towel while I feed him and he pees on it every time. He also wiggles his back end slightly off the towel so he gets my trousers as well. :luv::cen:

I’m sorry to read your post - it’s good he’s stopped squeaking when he wees and that his wee is now clear
It’s hard as we know what we have to do for them but they don’t.
Calm thoughts, deep breathing etc
Come Timmy keep munching and put some weight on lovely 🥰

Come on Timmy, you can do it. My thoughts are with you, it’s hard to make them gain weight but slowly and steadily you’ll get there.

I sieved the dust out of the bottom of the pellet tin just now and mixed some into a paste, he ate that very willingly. Next feed I will mix some into the recovery food so he gets some benefit from the good stuff but a more recognisable taste.
The things I do!

Sorry to hear Timmy's having a rough time of it, glad he's eating a bit more with your TLC the magical powers of nugget dust though ✨
Fingers crossed for a full and speedy recovery 🤞🏻🙏🏻
Look after yourself too ♥️
Luv from the girls and I.
Xx

That’s a good idea.
Hope it works with a bit of recovery food added

I found my old coffee grinder today so now I can grind the pellets. I know you can soak them to make a paste but we have Verselle Laga and Burgess Indoor and they take ages to soak and still don't melt very well.
Timmy was back to 1kg today, that's a bit of a relief, he's up from 949. I'm really hoping I don't have to cancel going away for Christmas, it's not fair to leave syringe feeding him to my partner on top of everything else he does for the piggies when I'm away. Come on Timmy get eating more for yourself!

I did go away for Christmas. I got Timmy up to 1045kg before I went. He is maintaining himself at 1050 ish so still 100gms down on where he was before but I'm not going to stress him with trying to up his weight hopefully he will increase slowly. He's such a stressed piggy I don't want cystitis again if we can help it.
Over the years I have worried that my arthritic boars (Red, Brillo and Caspy) got arthritis because they had ramps in their cages and loved the tubes linking their runs in the garden. They would run up and down and round and round all the time with great enjoyment. I was thinking about Timmy over Christmas and realised he's never had a ramp or run tunnel so I feel a bit better about the other's, the arthritis is probably not my fault, he's only ever been on the flat.
Finally caught up with washing all the Christmas fleece today thank goodness the weather has been dry.
