Hello all! So, I haven't been a piggy slave for more than a month, but I'm already getting ready to try switching over to fleece bedding. I made my pigs' cage myself, but I'm upgrading next week to a C&C cage with a base, because they're experiencing the "predator-swooping-in-from-above" thing, and I'd like to start using fleece bedding when I start with the new cage so I don't have to buy messy aspen anymore. I'm handy with a sewing machine, so I will be making the pads myself, however, I want to know your thoughts on what should be used at the filler in the liners.
I've heard of towels, flannel fabric, puppy pee pads, mattress pads, and furniture pads being used as the filler, but if you have a better recommendation, I'd love to hear it!
Based off of what I have read so far, I think to start, I will be using a fleece top layer, a bath towel in-between, and a fleece bottom layer. I do also plan on making smaller pads to put under their favorite potty corners, tunnels, houses, and high-traffic areas, but probably with two layers of towels, just to be super sure that they'll stay clean and nice!
What do you use for your filler in your fleece cage liners?

It sounds like you pretty much know what you are doing already!
I have a mixture of inners for my liners.
Some are old towels, and I also have zorb in some.

I do find that both work well but zorb definitely dries quicker, and is lighter when you have large liners.

I got my zorb from www.wazoodle.com - they shipped super fast, and the prices seemed great.

Because it is hard for me to get hold of Zorb here (Switzerland) and I rely on a friend bringing it over from the US I only use it in the full cage liners, and have toweling in the smaller piddle pads.

I use mattress protectors and they work great. I did make some like you and stitched them all nicely but I have burrowers that kept getting underneath. Now I just throw in a piece of mattress protector and then peg fleece over the top to the top of the correx. Works better for us although it was so much easier to do a cage change the other way.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! I made my cage liner yesterday, just as planned, with a towel in the middle and fleece on the top and bottom, and I'm super impressed with how well it worked! The water and urine wicked slowly off the top through to the towel, and ended up smell-free and completely dry! I'll have to wash and dry my liners a few more times next time I make them, as they wicked kinda slow, but this morning when I cleaned the cage, all that was left was piggie poos and hay scraps! Yay!

do they have to be 100% cotton or does polyester work?

ok. thanx. I'm having a hard time finding 100% cotton topped today. I'm anxious to get started. Will bath towels work?

yes bath towels will workmine have toweling both cotton and bamboo .some have zorb in middle.good luck making your liners.

You get the 100% cotton ones from Tesco, if they haven't got them in, just order them. Forgot to tell you, don't tumble dry the protectors otherwise they will shrink, although I'm not sure if they are sew in, whether they will still shrink or not. & don't forget to wick the fleeces.

Hello & Welcome.

I have zorb in one of the liners and a mattress protector (double layer cos it looked so thin) in the other. Going to be making one with an incontinance sheet in next. May try one with towels too.

I use vet bed for extra pads in their hideys and a rather smart blue microfibre/chenile bathmat. Mistletoe showing you the bathmat in action;

I use incontinence bed sheets - very thin but super absorbent and dry fast. good luck finding what works best for you

Is the microfiber bath mat very absorbant?
