COVID-19 Who's had the vaccine?

So excited - I was finally able to sign up for mine!
No appointment yet, but at least I am on the waiting list.
I hope the Swiss are rolling out the vaccine with their usual famous efficiency, and you get it soon.
I guess your daughter is still at home, not been able to return to her school in the UK?

Sadly the Swiss handling of the whole Covid affair has been an absolute debacle, and the vaccine roll out is no different.
Every Canton (a bit like counties in the UK) is allowed to manage their own vaccine distribution, and are given vaccines in relation to the size of the population.
So in some of the larger more urban areas they have set up centres in hospitals, etc and brilliant online tools for people to register.
In other Cantons there are no defined centres, no real plan of attack, and the internet support to manage it is totally lacking. There is no one online system being used across the country - every area has to develop their own.
It's the same with rules for school (again all decided by individual Cantons). Some schools are fully open and 5 kms up the road a school for the same age children is closed or partially open. Some schools have compulsory mask rules and some don't.
It's a nightmare tbh, and so far very few vaccines have been given, and no one knows the real numbers because the Cantons don't have to share them.

My daughter is still at home here, but honestly it will be a relief when she can go back to her school in the UK where they have testing and mask rules clearly in place, and a country that is at least trying to vaccinate it's population in some form of order.
For that the UK is streets ahead of Switzerland.

My Mum (late 70s) is being vaccinated at Epsom racecourse tomorrow. My aunt and uncle (late 70s) had theirs at a Church in Surrey this week. My MIL (late 70s) is being vaccinated at an independent chemist’s practice on Monday. Good to see they are all being vaccinated within a few days of each other.

My sister who is younger than me but a teacher and also vulnerable is waiting to see if she can have the jab earlier than planned but this seems very unclear.

Me and the OH will hopefully be vaccinated by Easter. The sooner the better as far as I am concerned.

This will come as such a surprise to those of us who believed that Switzerland would deal with this with their legendary efficiency. Who’d credit that a government led by Boris would actually be doing better than the Swiss?

I know - I am as shocked as you!
But the fact that the government doesn't usually take sweeping decisions and leaves it up to each area to decide for themselves is the real problem.
For example initially when some areas made masks in shops compulsory, people who didn't want to wear one would simply drive 5kms up the road to an area where they didn't have to wear one.
The whole thing was about as effective as a chocolate tea pot.

The government has stepped up a bit and now made rules like masks in shops compulsory everywhere, but other aspects like school and restaurant closures are how to distribute the vaccines are still left to each area to decide individually, and of course no local government wants to be the one to make unpopular decisions because then the Swiss go bonkers, collect 50,000 signatures and call a referendum to have the decision overturned - sigh. It's all a little crazy tbh.

I think Liverpool are getting on great with vaccination, 78 year old Uncle John had his vaccine today at his local GP surgery, piggy daddy who does community home care for the elderly is booked in at the new big stadium hub in St Helens for Monday, and my daughter who works with people with complex combinations of learning and physical disabilities almost got vaccinated at the hospital hub today, but she found out at 10pm last night that her little son Alfie has to isolate because another toddler from the child minder's tested positive! Luckily the child had been isolating for a few days after her mum tested positive so paws crossed Alfie is ok, but there's so much face licking and drooling amongst the under twos isnt there...!

@piggieminder how is your mum doing?

My dad (late 80s) had his this week. One of my sisters had her second dose last week? And her husband had his first a few weeks ago. Waiting to see when my mum will be called for hers.

@Siikibam We've not heard anything other than she is on oxygen. We left it that the home would ring my sister with any news and she would ring me. We don't want to ring the home as they are very short staffed and a lot of the residents are ill. It must be a nightmare for the staff as the residents are all isolating in their rooms. Thank you for asking.

My sister just rang me. The lovely people at the home are doing all they can to keep Mum comfortable. Mum is still on oxygen and struggling to breath. It's very surreal not being able to go and see her.

So sorry about your poor Mum, I hope she can fight the virus x A little old lady was on the news the other day of late 90’s who had contracted the virus and won through x

Sending you a virtual hug .. must be so hard xx

I heard that the old bods who are housebound can only have the jab that doesn't have to be stored at -70 because of the trouble with transporting it at such a low temperature.
That's right. They will be starting to vaccinate the over 80s where I live from thursday. According to the local radio most of the vaccine being delivered here is the -70 storage one so I don't know when the Oxford one will be available for home visits. A lot of people move here when they retire so the population is top heavy, I expect there are quite a few who are housebound and having to wait. Obviously within every age group someone has to be last but it is a worry.

I did my first shift as a vaccination steward today... bit of a shock getting up at 6.30am..... it was all very organised... everyone was so nice and all the people who were vaccinated were very greatful... back again tomorrow!

I have been told I'm in Tier 6, and they're currently vaccinating Tier 4's here. however, I'm on immunosuppression and the consultant has advised waiting to have it until more is known about it's long-term effects, so I won't be getting mine just yet.

I had the virus early November and was very lucky to have only had mild symptoms. Oddly my partner didn't catch it/tested negative. It is such an odd, devastating virus.
