Which antibiotic is she on ? X
Exactly the same thing with Ruby, eye is just getting worse, anyhow vet has given me more cream, baytril and metacam to give her one last chance, if no improvement by monday she is going to be Xrayed, then maybe have to remove her eye he said. So I think both our girls need healing vibes desperately.

You really need to be using Zithromax or Marbocyl for something like this. They are both fantastic for dealing with pus. I hope Eliza is soon feeling much better. X
How is Eliza today or is it too early to say if the new antibiotics are taking effect?
Did your vet suggest seperating her from your other piggies claire, hope Ruby is ok to remain with her friends because all my space is taken up with foster piggies!
Aww bless, poor poor Eliza, I really hope this infection clears up soon for her, must be heartbreaking hearing her squeaking as her eye is cleaned.
Ruby's eye is just the same today, I wish I could say we have some improvement, I really don't want her to lose her eye, but as the days go by it looks as if we may have no option.
She had a head tilt a couple of weeks ago along with her eye being poorly, the vet is wondering if there is some sort of nasty bacteria lurking behind this eye that is stuborn to treat, he is going to xray on monday and make a decision from then.:Ayociexp118:

Please get a swab from both ear and eye and get cultures/antibioitic sensitivity done before any more antibiotics are given...simultaneous ear and eye could be multi-drug resistant pseudomonas for which the only antibioitic is gentamycin injections. I have had 3 such cases in my herd over the last three years. I now always ask for cultures in a head tilt case...and if there is eye involvement as well then that really is an indication it is "no ordinary bug that baytril will fix"

It took two of us but Eliza has just had her first flush and drain at home.
The peoceedure wasn't as bad as I imagined but I feel so guiltyI cleaned her eye and held her down whist she screamed blue murder and Chris flushed her eye socket. Quite a lot of gunk came out but I guess it's better out than in.
With her socket being open, you can see where the pus is coming from. It seems to be the tissue at the top of the rim so I imagine it is that tissue that is infected.
How long is she on the new antibiotics for Claire, I was talking to Pebble about her experiences with infected eyes and she asked for cultures to be taken for three cases in her guineas, she said the only antibiotic that was sucessful in her guinea pigs case due to drug resistant pseudenomas was Gentamycin Injections.
I am going to quiz my vet tomorrow and see if this would help Ruby.
How interesting.
Eliza was on a low dose of Baytril when this all started. She has now been on a higher dose for two weeks. Vet says we need to give it a chance to work but she is prepared to try others if necessary. I will speak to her again when we go on Thursday.
Please let me know how you get on tomorrow and give Ruby a gentle kiss from me x
Well done little Eliza, good news in the right direction. Claire you are doing an amazing job
Thanks Lee.
To be honest her socket still looks and smells awful especially after cleaning but on Saturday there had been hardly any improvement but today there has been.
I don't understand eyes but it's the tissue that's infected. Apparently the inner tissue is healing up nicely which is what the problem was before. Her eye was re stitched but the tissue was damaged so it wast able to heal.
I feel so guilty keeping her away from her friends but so can't risk them licking her eye cavity out x
Glad to hear that it is a step in the right direction Claire, hopefully on Tuesday next week it will be better news still, we both have little pirate piggies now!
Vet is pleased with Ruby's progress, the wound is healing nicely, looks like all the healing vibes are working.
Thanks to Pebble too with all her support.
