Hey I’m new here so I hope I’m in the right area and doing this right I was wondering if anyone had any advice about young Guinea pig behaviour
basically bit of backstory I’ve had a pair of male pigs for about four years (Ben and Jerry) and sadly just before Christmas ben passed away. I’m aware that you shouldn’t really keep single piggies so looked into getting a friend for Jerry but he is quite a dominant male pig and couldn’t find anywhere that had any single male pigs that we could bond together so I ended up getting two baby/young male pigs to live along side him in a cage of their own (4x2 c&c cage) so they can still chit chat and all that and Jerry is doing well with this set up (even when he was with Ben they were just more co existing and weren’t rlly interested interacting)
The problem that I have now is that one of the younger pigs will not settle down and is charging around and chasing his cage mate biting at the bars (I have coved these with cardboard in the area he’s chomping) and just being a bit in the crazy side. He seems to be popcorning and squeeking so I’m unsure if it’s argressive or not but the other timid pig is kinda just sticking to the corners of the cage and running away from him
Is this just average behaviour for young pigs as I’ve never had to deal with young pigs before when I adopted Ben and Jerry they were already a few months old and very well bonded,
is this a dominance thing and he will settle down soon? or have I just got a highly energetic Guinea pig and my two previous pigs have just super calm dudes haha I believe the new pigs are around 9/10 weeks old
I’ve had to move into the spare room as they are in my bedroom and he’s been keeping me up at night I have chronic fatigue so I really need to be able to rest am I just being too anxious about this and he will settle
