2 Guinea Pigs won’t get along!

We used to have a guinea pig, but she got so lonely that we got another girl. Candy, the old one, was supposed to get along with Holly, the new one, but no. Holly litterly sticks her nose near Candy bottom and won’t stop after A MONTH. Candy is getting so annoyed and is biting Holly constantly and then Holly lets out a screeching noise and then runs back to Candy. It’s horrible to watch and we’ve tried so much. Please give advice!

Hi!

Please be aware that what you are watching is normal dominance behaviour. Nipping is a carefully judged gesture of power that is NOT painful; it just lets the other piggy feel the teeth. Submission screaming is the correct response - it is NOT from pain but a very effective way of actually preventing any fighting and real nastiness from the dominant piggy because the screaming makes it clear that the submissive piggy is not a rival.

Have you made sure to double-check the gender of both piggies before bonding to make sure that your new piggy is not a mis-sexed boar before bonding? Sadly, this isn't all that rare.

Do they have a hidey (with two exits), bowl and water bottle each?
Have you made sure that you feed a good diet in case your underpiggy is digging for redigested poos to help reboot their own digestion which is the other reason for sticking the nose in the bum apart from sniffing the pheromone daily status of a sow.
