clumped poopz

my male neutered guineapig has some clumped poops, not all are like this. what does this mean?

hi, i have a neutered male guineapig just over 3 years old that recently started having clumped poop, i don’t know why he acts fine and eats as normal. i give him orchard grass hay, veggies, bell peppers, forage, grain free pellets every morning and he drinks his water. i also notice some of the poops are also tear shaped. what could this be? and how can i fix it , thank you !

This could be impaction (neutered boars will get it) - the clumps
Tear drop shapes can be a digestive upset.

Switch to daily weight checks so you can be sure he is definitely eating enough hay; check his anal sac for impaction but do see a vet either way.
Impaction can have other causes other than muscle weakness so it is important to have the issue checked

If he has a digestive upset then you may need to remove all veg from his diet until things improve

How old is he? I recently asked my exotic vet the same question and she said not to worry too much. She checked the space where it comes out of (we do that too - stinky!) and she said that it isn’t packed and looks like the clumps are coming out freely. Would be interested to hear what others say. I do notice that when we aren’t so generous with the veg, it is a little better.

he is just over 3 years and 3 months i believe x yeah when i feed less veggies i do notice its not so clumped, also when i look where he poops i do notice some get stuck like 2 or 3 so i’m sure i have to help him now

I have noted that you had two threads on the same subject so I have merged them together.

Impaction is the loss of anal muscle strength in older piggies but it can also be secondary to other health issues (particularly the younger a piggy is) so always needs a vet check to rule other issues out when impaction starts happening.
