Contemplating an extra piggy...

What is actually wrong apart from ringworm?
 
Ringworm, teeth issues that will be expensive... severe anxiety? Never seen a pig so scared of everything... she kind of freaks out then goes all floppy like those Tennessee Fainting Goats that fall over and spaz out whenever they get spooked... we're assured there's nothing directly lethal but she needs syringe feeding and when we pick her up she goes all floppy and catatonic... most strange pig, probably seriously inbred... trying our best though!
 
Sounds like she has been very frightened or mistreated by previous owners to play dead like that? It’s her response to fear, poor little mite, so sad! At last she is In safe hands now with you guys. You are doing a great job with her and at some stage you will be rewarded when she realises she does not need to be scared anymore.

My husband suggested it was the previous owner's dogs... barking rottweilers sharing a room with piggies?! Just the ugly piggies of course :(
 
I can’t imagine anything more horrific for piggies to have to share a room with barking Rottweilers, well apart from if I had to share a room with them! Gosh that is just so awful for them, I just can’t believe how people can be so cruel!
 
Does that mean the barking Rottweillers have ring worm too then if they all share the same room? Poor dogs if they do. I think it's just as well Piggy Daddy got Bloddy pig out of that situation. I know it's hassle for you but it'll be worth it when Bloddy pig is better and trusts you.
 
Any advice would be good, I've never seen a "play dead" fear response before but the vet has seen it and thought it wasnt fatal... I really thought she'd had a stroke and it was pts time but the previous owner was shouting "she's always like that" and the vet was very kind and cheered her up a bit so now she's skittish but mostly alert. Though not really eating... going to syringe feed hwr before bed then leave her alone with piggy smelling hay and a dish of food... there's a back teeth spur thing going on but the vet thought it wasnt bad enough to rub her mouth or stop her eating just yet so he suggested she settled a few weeks before we do the dental surgery... but if she doesnt eat much she'll be back at the vet monday of course to review...
 
Bloddy pig :) she's disrupted everything but she's lovely and now piggy daddy gave her a name we have to keep her and try help her stay alive and get well! I was calling her "that poor animal" in a dissociated way until she came home from the vets this morning with a big vet invoice with her new name on... Bloddy pig! Which apparently comes from a really obscure 70's rock band called "Blodwyn Pig" who have worse 70's hair than my new lady's unfortunate peruvian mullet do...
 
Blodwen/Blodwyn means 'White Flower' in Welsh and is a very suitable name for the beautiful lady in the somewhat biased opinion of the Tribe!

If necessary use some piggy whispering tricks (inviting her into your human herd and telling her you love her) and plenty of praise and encouragement - it is surprisingly effective! With you getting on top of the ringworm, which is very uncomfortable, you should be able to bring her round, especially once she can join the herd. Ringworm treatment with cheap athletes foot cream may get on top of one spot, but as we know, it doesn't get rid of any spores sitting in the coat and in the cage... welcome re-infection! :(

Think she needs her beard washed after the critical care but she's eaten pieces of cucumber, red pepper and sweet potato dipped in critical care plus a couple of those new herby grain free pellets that @Beemz suggested which were delivered today... not sure she knows about eating hay yet even though she has a cage full so I'll keep adding bits from Jezenel's hay/toilet tray and Theo's hayloft which smell interesting...

How about trying a tiny bit of fresh picked grass? Softer on teeth just for now until she gets them filed

Thanks! Piggy daddy is welsh and new piggy is welsh and she certainly has a big white lopsided rosette on her forehead :) we had no idea she was a breeder's reject but now she's here we'll just make the best of things and hopefully she will make a nice passive low ranking herd friend for Jezebel after her quarantine then all the fluffy pigs can hang out together... we have Surolan and lots of F10 to combat the ringworm but if we dont see improvements in eating andcskun condition by next week we'll be straight back at the vet. Naughty piggy daddy... I was contemplating sending nameless piggy back because she was clearly very unhappy and a a massive infection risk to the herd...but he registered her with the vet and gave her a name so I guess she's staying!

Don't really know how to make her like her cage except putting smelly hay from the other pigs in there... I'd like to give her a snugglesafe heat pad but the way she zones out and switches off for a bit under stress I think it could be dangerous for her...

Good plan! I will strip my husband now and he can donate his clothes to comfort new piggy who loves her new daddy :)

Done! Blodwen is sitting on daddy's favorite fleece which has appeared in her cage :) she also has 2 different options of second hand peed on hay (safe aunty floof flavour, and sexy husboar flavour) plus a carbdoard hidey tube and some fresh hay and a food dish of cucumber, oats and pellets. Can't do much more except have the heating on for an extra half hour at 2am so she doesnt get cold...

That did make me laugh @PigglePuggle! I have visions of Piggy Daddy sitting cold and with nothing on just so that Bloddy pig is nice and snuggly warm with her floofy, sexy husboar flavour hay accompanying her!

PS My OH thinks I'm mad having hysterics to something he doesn't understand.

Blodwen approves, for the first time she's sitting out in the open chookened out on piggy daddy's fleece doing that sphinx like arms crossed head up posture rather than hiding her face away trembling...
And she ate 5mls of critical care from a syringe plus extra critical care spread on veggies plus a few pellets! Not much luck with hay eating yet but piggy daddy is trying to hand feed it to her after she's had a basic critical care ration plus veggies so she gets the idea... there's really no definite medical reason for syringe feeding except she's too anxious to eat but anything that keeps her alive and makes her like us is good! She loves her piggy daddy a lot...
