I’d say go for it mate. If she’s still squealing etc then the meds aren’t helping as much as you’d want or there’s something else going on. Sure she’ll be fine with the GA, if OAP Jess can get through one and an op then you shouldn’t worry too much, especially as she’ll be with Simon. Stones are bad but at least she can be treated for it then and hopefully recover quickly. (Poor Rupert had one stuck in his willy and still got through the op and lived years after!)
Hope you can decide what to do, try not to worry too much x

Aw, poor little Rupert! I agree get it done, then you will know one way or the other!

Hopefully it's a UTI and she will be better soon, poor Dot. My vet did tell me stones tend to be worse in boars because their plumbing is such that they are harder to pass. When Rusty had his stone in January he had a UTI as well so antibiotics made him slightly better but not completely. Getting her xrayed will put your mind at rest if it's negative and get Dot the treatment she needs quickly if it's positive for a stone. Sending Dot bucket loads of get well vibes. Xx

Right after reading these, I am going for it, she goes on in the morning at 9am.

Thanks for the replies.

I've been what sapping members aswell for help and asking the same sort of questions over an over. I'm not doubting anyone's valuable help, I just wanted a sort of group feeling on this. I do struggle making desivions sometimes

Yea, when my old boar had stones, it's crippled him, not nice at all. Followed by huge infection, no appetite at all 😔

I believe, and I don't know the proper words for this sort of talk. But boars have more narrow urine pipe work, so harder to pass.

That's right, there's a bend or kink as it leaves the bladder. I believe it's the same for human males. A least my BIL tells me his stones are far more painful that mine!

I've heard bladder stones is one of the worst pains in humans. That's coming from what I've heard men say 😱

I've had a ruptured appendix, and the pain was out of this world and out of the universe, I was rolling up the hospital ward shouting for morphine, I grabbed the nurses hand when she finally got to me and shoved the syringe in my mouth Lol. I felt it rupture, the actual appendicitis is bad enough

Sending all the love in the world to your little sweetie. 💕

Hope it all goes well in the morning matey. She’ll be in the best hands with Simon! :) Good luck gorgeous Dotty x

Just got pigs out for floor time again. Dot had like a greyish gunk round her secret lady garden. Sludge me thinks. I do not think she has stones. Not if my last pig was anything To go by in comparison. He was a boar but its a huge difference if she has got stones too

Left a little note about dots progress whilst on meds since Saturday, just because it's a locked door policy and I can't speak face to face with a vet. Seems strange, but I'd rather do too much than not enough. Not only this but what I say to a receptionist could get lost on translation View attachment 140427
Paws crossed for a good vet trip and hope Dot gets well soon! X

Thanks. I don't feel very good lol, sort of shaking with fear of the worst. But I am looking at how well she is in herself even before she started on the meds. 🤞 I'm seriously thinking about taking nuggets out of the diet after this. I'm not sure yet though, I can't blame it on this, but this seems to have started after I switched to half Harringtons half ss grain free after bernie wouldn't eat the grain free.

Sorry no idea on the food as far as stones go, I used to feed Gerty gpig (before I realised it caused selective feeding & more waste), then Burgess Excel mint nuggets, now Science Selective nuggets as I was given a sample bag & Ellie was off her food, she decided to break into the bag on the table at meds time - so I've used it ever since.

In over 20yrs of keeping gpigs I've only ever had 1 of my girls with a diagnosed stone & I could see it when she tried to pee, but I think I only ever seen her drinking about twice in 6yrs!
The vets broke it up to get it out & she was under anaesthetic for a very short time.

Good luck with Dots xray & hope it turns out to be an easily treated UTI.
fingers crossed for a full & speedy recovery to the gorgeous Dot :luv:

luv the girls & I 🐹 🐹 🐹 🐹

Thanks. I got dot in vets, my grandad battling covid 19, and a funeral tomorrow, but the funeral is at home, we are lighting a candle and doing a minute or so silence. One of our more distant relatives died a few weeks ago from parkinsons. Rough times

20 years and one case of stones is good going. I really think the number one thing to battle stones is to keep a guinea pig moving and have them on a well hydrated diet

Poor you, so sorry your grandad’s poorly, hope he gets well soon x

Most of the girls diet is hay, with about 50g nuggets morning, then again at night between 4 Guineas, in the good weather grass time nearly all day & washed/wet veg/grass/dandelions, etc. at various points throughout the day. X

I think grass is the key, I think guinea pigs in a large run, grazing on grass is the closest you will get to them living like a wild guinea pig
I truly believe this is why my piggies haven't had bladder issues. They eat a very natural diet and will spend whole days outside in the runs. They are so much more active, when in the run, than they are in their cages.

This is where I can't adjust anything for my pigs. I have no garden and limited room, so can't have a c and c cage. I can pick grass though, but council have mowed it away. Awesome timing!
