Eriathwens piggies

Just done little man's bedtime feed and for the first time since his health blip, that I've seen, he's been able to do a couple of sneezes! He's had a slight whistle in his upper airways, probably some hay or pellet dust, but he's finally been able to clear it 🥹 (I have today learned the inability to sneeze is called asneezia, which is a brilliant word 🤣) so there's still progress every day! He managed to eat some soaked pellets without smooshing them into the side of the bowl so much and has eaten a lot more today than he has been managing, and while he is still choking occasionally, he is able to clear this himself and swallow it, rather than having to retch it back out with the help of me and gravity.. which also shows a lot more control and awareness of the inside of his mouth and his throat muscles.

There's likely still a long way to go, and I'm hoping the sudden increase in food doesn't cause him any digestive issues tomorrow.. I'll monitor him as close as I can, fingers crossed he continues to improve. I'm so proud of that little guy 🥹

I don't understand... funny UK saying? :hmm:

Poor soggy Silver, I'm sending virtual treats 🥬🥒🫑🥕
Yes, one of those weird English phrases. I think it's usually "knocked seven bells out of" meaning to beat very severely. The Internet says it comes from old navy language, when bells were used to mark time on a ship - eight bells meant the end of a watch period.

"knocked seven bells out "

Thanks! I never managed to get the number right 🤣

I finally managed to get Silver some intensive care emeraid for his syringe feeds, it's so much smoother than other syringe feeds he's been swallowing it so much easier and eaten twice as much as he usually would. He keeps falling asleep while grooming his little feet 😅🥰 its rather adorable.

Little Silver is still going, although improvements have stalled a little bit. I have some medication ordered to hopefully help with any dizziness or vertigo he may be experiencing. Hopefully I can keep him comfortable for a little longer, but we do seem to be approaching the point I'll need to make a decision to let him go.

Unfortunately all this is happening at the same time as Willow our cat not being well again after vomiting more blood and refusing food for the last 4 days, although he has improved a little after being given an anti emetic from the vet. He's just very tired.

So all in all, I'm stressed beyond belief atm, and doing my best to make sure I look after myself at the same time (lesson learned!) But I've not been feeling very well either but hopefully if they both improve a little bit I can finally relax. The only upside is that Willow is no longer screaming at me at 4am for food, so I'm getting almost a full night of uninterrupted sleep for the first time in at least a year. He is enjoying coming and sitting with Silver while he's being fed, they seem to be getting a bit of comfort from each other which is nice.

Poor you, dealing with two poorly and much loved pets, what a heavy load to bear. It sounds tiring and stressful and I hope you have support. They’re both lucky to have you. I have such a soft spot for Silver, and Willow looks lovely too. Such special ones. Take care, and here’s hoping for as many good days for you all as possible.

So unfortunately I have got Silver out for his last meds and feed of the night and he is very tired, he is getting a blue tinge to his extremities 🥺 it seems his heart is starting to fail. I believe we are nearing the end within the next few hours. He is thankfully very comfortable, he is still wanting to eat and drink, enjoying his syringe feed and electrolytes, and able to take his medications which will help in continuing to keep him comfortable.

Obviously I won't let him suffer, but I would prefer him to pass at home with familiar smells, familiar vibrations through the floor of his friends running around enjoying life and the familiar sensations of his bedding underneath him with his smell on them, along with what little sounds he can hear. But if needs be, we will have him helped along before he begins to suffer.

Willow is still keeping a vigil, making sure his little friend is being cared for correctly.

I’m so sorry to read this, your love and dedication knew no bounds and we could all see that was a very special bond you and Silver had. I’m glad it was peaceful at the end. Those boys had so much spirit and you made sure they had a wonderful life despite their health issues. Well done for that and be proud. They really were meant to be with you weren’t they. I know none of that helps ease the pain in this moment though. Take care x
