So I've had my Guinea pig for a couple of months and I feed him well and clean him well too. But today I woke up to hearing him whining almost moaning. It's not a loud noise or high pitched. I've searched and searched everywhere to see what the noise he is making means but I can't find anything. I also can't go to the vet due to money issues. Please someone help me figure out what is wrong with him. :ple:

I'm sorry but if you think your piggy is ill you really should seek veterinary help for him. If you are in the UK and money is an issue try the PDSA but please don't let him suffer.

Thank you I will see what I can do to get him help. He started making more noises as if he were to throw up

dito, please take him to the vet
let us know how you get on

So I checked on him today and he seems a bit better and he stopped making the moaning noise but I am taking him to the vet on Monday since the exotic vet isn't available on the weekends.

Does he sound wheezy at all? Or making a noise as if it were to end in a sneeze (as in the build-up)? Has he sneezed?
Is there anything dusty in his cage? That's not an insinuation, but there are plenty of bedding and hay that, when you shake it, throw up some dust. Some pigs are more sensitive to this than others.
Does he make the sound just after eating? he may be gulping his food too fast and making himself a bit gurgly.
If it's an infection usually they are relatively cheap to deal with, I know vets are never cheap, but it could be that you may only need to pay for the consultation and some antibiotics and probiotics. I realise that this isn't easy when money is tight, but hopefully you won't be hit with a whopper!

Also when he makes his noise, is he hunched over and straining? He could be experiencing pain when he wees if this is the case. Again he will need medication.

It would be worth reading through some of the threads on Upper Respiratory Infections (URI) and Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) to gain a little knowledge of the best types of meds to discuss with your vet to prescribe.

Good luck.

Heaving hiccups is a possibility but he definitely needs to see a vet. Is he eating ok?

So I took him to the vet and they told me he won't be available until Wednesday :( he stopped making the moaning noises. He didn't hunch over when he did them but everytime he moaned he would move. I think I should get him a bigger cage so that he had much more room. And also I think it's his flooring that is making it worse because is it quite dusty. He has been sneezing so I think he might be sick. His eating and drinking hasn't changed. Also he always chatters his teeth at the sound of my voice BUT he has been doing that since the day I got him. I tried so hard to make him like me. I got him treats, veggies, and cleaned him and his cage. But even after I did all that he still doesn't like me. I don't carry him for a long time but I also don't leave him lonely. I am homeschooled so I am with him every hour of the day.

I don't think it has anything to do with him not liking you. If he isn't feeling well he'll definitely not act like himself. Please let us know what the vet says :soz:
