Pigging Out

Yesterday afternoon, I noticed that Carson was just hiding and staying in their boxes/bed most of the day. He was fine in the morning but there was a change during the afternoon. He wasn't eating too. So I picked him up and weighed him and he was down to 1048g from 1086 on Tuesday. It wasn't much dropped but we've been trying for him to gain the weight back he lost before we went on our holiday in March (he was 1177g when we dropped him off to the boarders but he weighed 1040g when we git back!). He was still acting by himself since then so we put that as him being not happy he was not in his home.

Anyway, we started topping him up with CC and even though his poops are normal (a bit soft around afternoon but normal last night) and peeing alright, we decided to give him a dose of Loxicom. He did start eating hay and cucumber and drinking water from the bottle last night but not enough to maintain his weight. This morning he was 1030g. So hubby booked an appointment to the vets this afternoon.

The vet can't find anything unusual until we told her if we can get his pee tested. He has diabetes and I was worried it might be related to that. So from the pee stick test, his glucose is normal (thankfully) but his pee has blood (even though it was clear liquid) and his protein is high. So we decided to get antibiotic but they have to order it and we'll pick up the next day. When we got home, while I was giving Carson some CC, he peed a little and there was a little blood clot and blood stain. Good thing the vets phoned and hubby told them about the blood clot. The vet must have released/loosen some of these blood clot while examining his bladder and forcing him to pee. But they informed us that the antibiotic we want (Sulfatrim) won't arrived until Thursday, so we just asked if they can give us some Baytril we can give Carson until the other antibiotic arrives.

I remember that last week when I was cleaning their play area, there was a tiny bit of blood stain on the mat. I told hubby and he said it might just be a cut from either piggy, but nothing suspicious with the boys at all. I was on a blood watch since then but nothing really unusual in their fleece. So now I'm thinking it was a sign that time that Carson has UTI and we just confirmed now.

So a little update..

Carson started wheeking again today! We were out from 11am to 2pm as we were going to the hospital for hubby's blood test and lunch after wards. When we opened the door, Carson dashed out of their box and started wheeking! That's a big improvement from yesterday. His weight is down to 1021g today but he started eating grass on his own. He also ate celery again which he was refusing to do since Sunday. So hopefully the antibiotic and Loxicom is starting to do its job. He's been walking around the living room just now with some of his chirpy like noise when he's happy.

With Bodie, he started eating his pellets and drinking water again. I think having a dose of Loxicom helped as he also ate some long grass on my lap while topping him up with CC. He started going to their food bowl again and stop attacking the boxes. He even tried to hump Carson.

What a lovely looking salad 😋

Have you tried a bit of mashed banana ?
It helps boost weight, especially mixed in with some Critical Care.
Micah was a banana addict!

Carson has diabetes so we are quite limited with the food to give him. So we are only giving him food that have no or very low sugar content. So far he is loving all the herbs that we tried giving him for the first time (he loves the dill and I hate the smell of it!). The 2 slices of thin carrots and the watermelon rind in the bowl will be taken away once he starts eating properly again haha. He was quite good with it though as he only chose to eat one of the carrots and didn't want any more. It's the plum tomatoes that he loves the most and want more of it, but he is only allowed 2 little slices. He's been good today as he was eating hay and pellets and has not had any CC since the 5mls he had when hubby fed him in the morning. Fingers crossed he keeps on getting better with eating again. He doesn't have UTI now and his pee has no trace of blood when we tested it again yesterday.
