Hi all,
I wanted some advice on people’s experiences of having a trio of sows? I have two current girls and was considering another one who would be approx 10 weeks by the time I get her. One of my current pigs is very shy in personality and the other is outgoing, they are housed in a 5X2 C&C. I’ve done a lot of research into how to bond them etc so it’s not that I’m worried about it’s more upsetting their current dynamic they have.
does anyone have any advice or thoughts?
Thanks so much!

This guide gives information on adding further sows to a pair and what works and what doesnt. Of course, what looks good in theory may be different in reality as character compatibility is the important factor and it’s not something you can predict in advance. You just won’t know how it will go until you try!

If you attempted a bonding and it didn’t work, what would your long term plan be for the then single piggy? That is always the key question for me when it comes to these situations!

It really is down to their little personalities isn’t it! I wouldn’t say my current two have the best bond in the world but they get on well enough, does this have an affect on bringing in another? I wouldn’t want anyone left out.
There is another home lined up for the piggy with a lone female if she didn’t work out in our herd.

Adding a third won’t necessarily make their bond better and trios do run the risk of an outsider situation occurring (although absolutely not always). As said though, it’s down to character and there isn’t really any way of knowing what will actually happen in advance. you would soon know if it was an all out failure and be able to plan accordingly
