I recently bought a baby Guinea pig from the petshop who I actually reported to the rspca before adopting her, I nipped back and saw the babies were still in poor condition so I took the worst one (left it 6 days and tried asking the rspca if they'd been out but they said they couldn't tell me anything they will call me in 28 days to tell me the outcome!) anyway I took her to the vets twice and the first time they said it was mange and the second time they said she has ringworm Aswell. I really will do anything to get this pig healthy no matter the cost so any advice would be greatly appreciated I am so upset and cry every time I look at her because she is living in a shed alone until she has cleared the ringworm and then she will go in with my females.

Here's what I've done so far as advised by the vet on Saturday when I got her the vet told me to treat her with Xeno 50 mini for the mange which I have and will do another 2 treatments on the second and 4th week. And when she went back on Monday and was diagnosed with ringworm they just told me to put canesten anti fungal cream on her infected bits. Is this enough to clear the ringworm or do I need to give some sort of medicated baths too? I am worried as it looks like it's got worse. And when I say it's bad I mean really bad that's why I bought her but she's 9 weeks old and the vet said they didn't want to use anything too harsh on her because of her age, what shall I do? Am I doing the right thing or should I be doing more? She's eating lots and pooping lots too and I have been syringing her water to make sure she's drinking, been doing this every couple of hours. Please help me I have had no sleep over the past 2 nights with worry. I just want her to get better I feel awful and I'm so upset about it

I would add in Imaverol dips too, it is gentle enough to use on a baby and can be bought online if your vet isn't able to give it to you. You basically dip the pig and let it dry without rinsing off. Don't dip within 48 hours of any mite treatment though.

Here is our Ringworm guide and the Imaverol (Enilconazole) link.

Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

Enilconazole 100mg/ml 100ml

I would usually suggest an oral medication called Itrafungol too but I am not sure on the minimum age it can be used for.

Thank you :) so shall I keep using the canesten cream Aswell until the dip arrives and can I use the dip around her eyes? Also what's the best way to dry her? because I'm paranoid of using the hairdryer on her incase it spreads the spores around the house and spreads the ringworm to my dog and other piggies. The cream has taken all the crust off the patches and its left bare pink/ red skin is this normal? Sorry for all the questions I'm just really worried

About every three days until the ringworm has stopped; hopefully, it is about 3-4 times, but in severe cases it can take more.
Thank you for replying :) i would say it's very severe, that's why I bought her because I could tell she needed medical attention. It's popping up all over, is it supposed to go bald and smooth and these patches are pink/ red? And what's the best way to use the dip around her eye?

I think that is normal, have a look at the guide as it shows the different stages. Yes Imaverol can be used around the eyes.

Is there any way you can let her dry naturally? If not, then I think you need to use the hairdryer as she is going back outside afterwards.

I think it will have to be the hair dryer, I think it's too cold for her if not, thank you for replying, the one on her face looks like picture 2 and the ones on her back and arms look like picture 4, so hopefully it's working. It's really worrying because there's so much of it and she's so small but like I said she's eating and I'm making sure she's getting water. Is there anything I can do to prevent it getting infected? I've been cleaning her out twice a day so she's not walking/ laying in her wee and been scrubbing the cage out. I've been putting towels in there too to keep her warm which I've been changing twice a day too.

The dips arrived :) going to start it straight away I will let you know how we get on :)

Didn't go very well she was terrified and jumped out several times so I got a cotton wool ball and applied it to her eye and head she's completely wet do you think this will be good enough for it to start working?

It will be a start, any that you can get on her will start working.

Hello, baby piggy is looking loads better and has fur growing back I was just wondering when it's safe to stop the treatment? I stopped putting the canesten cream on 4 days ago and I am going to give her a bath today. She is looking better and there are no scabs and no hair is falling out anymore but she has like dandruff/ dry skin on the places where the hair is growing back. Is it safe to stop all treatment all together after her bath today or should I carry on?

She's had 4 baths all together as I treated her with ivermectin 2 days after 1 of the dips then left it another 2 days after the ivermectin and dipped her again today

So this was just after the first dip

Sorry for the rubbish pic but she kept moving, the scab completely covered 1 side of her face above her eye, her body was completely covered too but didn't manage to get a pic of that.

This is after the second dip

This was after the 3rd dip

And this was today so this would be dip 4

Definitely lots of improvement but just not sure if it's safe to stop the dips all together, the dandruff/ dry skin seems to have gone now she's had a bath.
