Screaming Piggy!:(

Update: After last update we went back to the vets and he was given more antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. He's not got any worse or any better. He's still eating and energetic but he's still making frequent straining sounds when he wees or poops and I've noticed he only leaves behind the tiniest little bit of wee. Going to phone the vets and ask to get him xrayed as it does seem like there may unfortunately be a stone :/ fingers crossed there isn't anything too serious

Jerry is currently at the emergency vet having surgery to remove a bladder stone, he was squeaking lots tonight and stopped weeing so had to go into surgery asap.

Any tips on aftercare? We are allowed to bring him home in the morning x

Oh bless, I presume he had a stone blocking him? Poor little guy, sadly it can happen.

Bladder surgery can be quite a big operation, my little one needed syringe fed after the operation. Definetly ask for Emeprid and Zantac aswell as pain killers. He'll be sore.

It will take him a few days to bounce back, I would keep him in a smaller space to stop him doing to much.

Let us know how he gets on.

When Panda had this op I had to keep him separate from Pedro, to make sure he was weeing and pooing. He was allowed back in with Pedro the next day, and I made sure the Piggy Palace was kept very clean until the wound healed. He fed straight away, and I was absolutely amazed at how quickly he was back to normal. In fact he was better than before because he COULD wee again, and didn't hurt. We were asked to go back for a wound check, that was four days after the op.
I know I was very lucky that Panda recovered so quickly and so well. But if it happened to him, it can happen for Jerry.

Thank you :)
I think I'm worrying myself by reading stories about it with bad endings! He's a strong little piggy.
I don't have to worry about that as he lives in his own cage above Ben's (they don't get on very well) so I will know if he's using the toilet/eating etc

phone call from the vets, operation is done but it wasn't successful as he couldn't reach the stone and had to bring Jerry back round. Don't know where to go from here! :'(

Got another call to say he's coming round slowly but hopefully we can bring him home in the morning and think about what to do next. Anyone got any advice? :'(

So sorry, you will need to discuss with the vet your next move. If he does have a blockage then I would imagine letting him go would be the kindest option. If he isn't blocked the condition could be managed I guess, I had my Pen at home he was chalked full of kidney stones and no surgery intervention was possible. We had my boy on Tramadol until his quality of life was no more then I put to sleep. Pen had very little time after his diagnosis, he became very unhappy and I decided as there was no light at the end of the tunnel I would stop his suffering.

It's a very hard situation and I would definitely talk to the vet as the biggest factor will be where is the Stone and is he blocked? Also what he would recommend as my Pen was in good spirits your little man is going to be sore after the operation.

Thank you everyone for your help and support getting little Jerry through the last couple of weeks. I'm absolutely heartbroken writing this but I went to see him at the vets and we had a cuddle but he could hardly move or breathe and I told him if he wanted to go to the rainbow bridge he could and so he did, bless him x
