Hello everyone,
My guinea pig Nymeria is peeing blood. I only found out today, to my knowledge yesterday this wasn't happening.
I immediately took her to an exotics vet and they took an x-ray and a pee sample. There were no bladder stones so the vet said it's possible it's either a urinary track infection or an ovarian cyst that burst.
Tomorrow I'll know the results of the pee test, to see if it's an urinary track infection.
If not she'll have to have an ultrasound done and if it's cysts she'll have a surgery.
All of this is extremely costly but I'm willing to pay anything to safe my baby.
Has anyone else had something like this happen? Is it more likely to be an infection? That would be best of two evils I assume.
She isn't eating a lot so I syringe fed her.
Her companion Bubbles doesn't seem to have a big appetite either, which is odd for her. Is this normal? Should I be worried for her?

Peeing blood (actually peeing porphyrine coloured urine that may or may not contain blood) is typical for the onset of a urinary tract infection or cystitis.
Ovarian cyst or womb problems (with or without pyometra) generally present either with pure blood drops or rather as a very smelly but not deep red coloured fluid.
You can find more information here: Guinea Lynx :: UTI

It didn't smell bad, she even peed on me, it seems to me like it's mostly urine with blood. I really hope it's not a cyst...
Thank you so much for your answer, I'll check out the page ❤️

I just got the pee sample test results and I was told that there were no crystals in the urine but the red stuff was blood. They can't tell me if it's an UTI and recommend an ultrasound. Any opinions on this? They told me that UTI's alone don't usually cause blood in urine. Is this true?

If the red stuff is blood then there is a much higher likelihood that your boy could have a stone; please have the scan done!

No stones were seen on the x-ray but I'm going to get an ultrasound done on her to rule it out completely and see if it isn't ovarian cysts.
