I've been looking at getting new nuggets for Toast as she has a lot of health issues most of the time.
Recurring cystitis, unstable weight, bladder issues, bloat..

I've found this;

VetCarPlus Multi-Modal Guinea Pig Food | Edibles | The Hay Experts

It says it's good for all of the issues I mentioned, does anyone have any experience with this? And would it be suitable for Beans who has none of these issues?

Thanks. The only thing that I seen in it that I'd question was alfalfa and soya... although I feed nuggets in small amounts so maybe it wouldn't be an issue..

These are like 5inch or so sticks instead of nuggets.

I got a pack when I was trying to find something for my bladder sludge boy but none of my 3 will eat them. The best I get is one of them will shred it into pieces but doesn't eat it.

These just came for my girls today from vetuk. Trying crunchie on them as shes been on a no pellet diet for a few months now, and is stable on her high dose cystease. Should she have a flare, i'll know its these pellets as I'm not changing anything else. Fudge wasnt keen initially, i offered her some when i brought her out for her usual pellets on my bed. She kept turning away from them and putting her paw on me as if to say "mum wheres my oxbow?!" She finally gave in and ate them when i didnt back down lol. Hoping they help fudges inflamatory gut issues too. Will let you know how they get on x

How many capsules of cystease a day do you give?

Thanks, I've seen a few good reviews and a few not so good, let me know how your girls get on :)

She started on half of a capsule twice daily for 2 weeks i think, then moved onto 1 whole capsule twice a day ( so 2 capsules a day). It was once i doubled the dose that i saw the benefits, but of course you should run any changes by your vet before you make them. Cranberry tabs from tesco have helped too, as well as filtering her water using a brita filter jug. We will see how much the pellets has played a part in it now shes on these ones! X

Do you just give one a day or something? What did you end up getting instead?

I use JR Grainless from Zooplus. He's really fussy over pellets and won't eat them daily but he will eat them as treats occasionally, so he has maybe 5 or 6 a week. He maintains his weight with hay and a bit of veg so I'm not too worried about him eating pellets.

Here's a photo of them so you can see the size.

I'll try the boys with them again today to see if they've changed their mind about them.

Fudges poos havent looked better .. So far so good. Thats me just switching over completely too.. She needed to get her guts undercontrol, normally id faze them in though.

They're both eating them but dont think they LOVE them as they arent gorging. They're finger length.. But break really easily x

That's good then, maybe just take a while to accept the change? :P
Are they grainless? X

It doesnt say that they are however i dont see much of a grain content.. With fudges current gut issues, even critical care was setting it off! Literally couldnt give her anything different, but her poos look great today and shes been eating these pellets since yesterday. X

These look interesting l always give my piggies selective foods. I wonder if they do a sample to see if my piggies like them. Are the cranberry capsules a preventive measure, or for a existing one.

Cranberry is a great antioxidant and good for cystitis/bladder issues in people as well as piggies. Crunchie has half a tab twice a day along with her cystease. We tried alot of things at once as she was facing a bladder op due to her issues being so bad. Shes much more stable and comfortable now!

I know Alfalfa is rich & more for Young piggys but what is the problem with the soya. My piggies are putting on to much weight that's why I'd use it & maybe for preventive measures.
I give the about two handfuls of nuggets a day. I thought they had to have nuggets in their cage all day. That's one boob that's not helping their weight then.

Bumble has been on these for a couple of years - he would still sell his little piggy soul for harringtons or Asda pellets but my specialist piggy vet told me to feed him these as she uses them for her piggies - (I had never heard of them before she told me about them ).It does take a while for them to accept them, but they will eat them if there are no other nuggets available.

I've asked for a free sample, so hopefully they will love them, well my 10 week old piggy will eat anything & more :lol!:
