COVID-19 Who's had the vaccine?

Had my first Pfizer vaccine today. It's a strange feeling to have had it before other people (like my mum who is at more risk than I am) but I'm so thankful too. Some of my colleagues had it yesterday & have reported a bad night with temperature, headaches & nausea. I currently have a sore arm & a bit of a headache. I think the headache is more likely to be from not sleeping well (worrying as I am not good with needles) & dehydration (my appt was this afternoon so barely drank as worried what I'd do if needed toilet). Started on the painkillers though, hoping to curb the pain before it hits!

Has anyone on here had there covid 19 vac because my mum got to go on weds this week to have hers but she says she doesn't want it because she is a diabetic and i keep saying if you don't have it you will get the prime minister to you
Any advice, thanks

I know a lot of people who’ve had it but can’t really offer any advice on persuading her it’s safe for her :-(

A relative of ours works in the NHS and is diabetic. They had it and are fine. Is she worried about the effects of it on her diabetes? It’s a tough one because sometimes being pushy will have the opposite effect. I hope she changes her mind.

I would encourage her at least to go along there will be medical professionals there that she can talk through her concerns with and if she really doesn't want it she can turn it down but hopefully they will be able to put her worries at ease.

If your Mum is diabetic then she is at risk and should serious think about getting vaccinated x

She is likely being offered it because of her age as diabetes in itself isn’t getting folk vaccinated yet but it is well known that diabetes significantly increases the risk of more complications should you catch covid. If she has ever had a flu vaccine then she needs to consider it similar to that. (I struggle with the argument of being a bit ill for a couple of days from a vaccine when the whole point of the vaccine is to stop you dying if you catch the disease)

That depends on your local area though - like the only reason I'll have been given it is because I'm overweight. I have no other risk factors (well, aside from smoking, but that doesn't get taken into account), and on the list of risk factors in general there's plenty more people in immediate need of it than myself. Which is as it should be - and why it surprised me to get the call last week.

And this is Rochdale we're talking about, we're hardly a perfect picture of great organisational skills.

There is no official strategy of local decision making. The decisions come centrally based on recommendations from the JCVI. Some areas are messing with it, but they shouldn’t be.

I'm going based on my eligibility for the flu vaccine, but I don't actually know - I got the flu vaccine before I swiched GPs and it's the new GP that gave them my details. Northern Ireland's strategy seems to be a lot more "together" than England's, but it's not really comparable.

Diabetics have now been added to the clinically extremely vulnerable list and have been asked to shield. My daughter was contacted last week. She’s got her vaccination in about a weeks time.

Is it just diabetes? 😭 I’d gathered it was that plus other comorbidities. I’m sunk. (I have several diabetic staff and whilst I know they have to be safe, I have a ward to safely run with an increasingly depleted staff base!). None of them had been contacted yet though, nor my mother in law.

Has the threat of being Borissed persuaded her to have the vaccine? My hubby is Type 2 Diabetic, he had his first Oxford jab in January and is fine - eagerly awaiting the second in April!

I’m off for my jab on Friday :D OH just looked on the booing site, put my date of birth in and it continued to offer me an appointment. I still have not got a letter. He spoke to a friend in Leeds and they had done exactly the same when he booked his appt, he also managed to book his wife (who’s a little bit younger) in too at the same time and she still hasn’t got the letter. So for anyone that’s over 60, they should look and see if they can be booked in. I think the letters are very slow to come out. For Friday there was so many vacant appointment spaces I could choose any time
