Hey everyone, so this is my first post so bare with me if I posted in the wrong section.

So I already have two boars, Mr. Waffles and Pollo, and I bought them both at a pet store. I didn't know any better, at that point, I didn't even know you could adopt or rescue a guinea pig, much less where. I know where I can adopt, so no more guinea pig buying at the pet store for me. Anyways, I kind of wanted to get another, this time adopting of course, but I didn't know what I should get. I know boars tend to fight a bit more (I already went through the introducing phase with my first two and it was painful to watch/hear) and I'm scared that another one may cause even more fighting.

Another option was getting a sow, if so, I'd probably get two so Waffles and Pollo don't fight over a single sow. Neither Waffles nor Pollo are neutered, but all the sows at the rescue shelter are spayed. Would it work out if I adopt two spayed sows? That way they can each have a girlfriend and the sows don't get pregnant? Or do you think there would still be a problem and it might just be better getting another boar?

Thanks to everyone in advance!

I am no expert, and I’m sure someone will be along with a little more knowledge than me.... however boar trios very rarely work out. And getting sows, even if they are spayed will more than likely upset the bond that your two boys have and will result in a fall out. Sorry, I think your only option would be separate cages, even then, you wouldn’t want two sows near your boys...

You should netuer your two boars since neutering two females is more risky. If you went with the third option you'll need a lot of space. There are some successful trio only because they have more than 15+ ft of space

I think you would have to split your boys and have a boy and a girl in each cage to stop the boys from fighting over the girls.

Hi!

Boars work best in pairs; please do not break what is not broken. They cannot live in a group with spayed sows and are at their most unstable in boar trios or quartets.
No good rescue will rehome spayed sows (so they have them) as companions for a bonded boar pair. If you want them to live with a sow each, they can only do so in separate cages. Unless your boys actually fall out, there is however no reason for splitting them up.
Adding More Guinea Pigs Or Merging Pairs – What Works And What Not?

If you want more piggies, please consider adopting a stably bonded boar pair to live in a separate cage the can be adjacent to your current boys.
