I have a 3yr/old boar that has been pretty healthy his whole life. Until recently, that is. He's been feeling kinda lifeless and floppy, not dead though. I look it up and it says something about having a stroke, and I know that they're subject to heat stroke and it's been REALLY hot in Oregon recently. However, he's not necessarily just laying around. He's still running and playing with his 10mo/old mate. He has been a little tiny bit lazier, but it could just be that he's tired. He doesn't appear to be sick or dying, as he's drinking and eating well. I feel like a minor heat stroke could be the issue because while I was at school, my fan (That I normally have on full blast pointed directly at the cage) fell over and got unplugged. On a ~94F day. I can't be totally sure, I was hoping to find some professionals or pro's, and, yes, there is a difference.

If you have any concerns about your pig please take him to a guinea pig vet to be checked.

On hot days you can take other actions, such as keeping the room as cool as possible by closing any windows and curtains before the day getting too hot.

You can also give your guinea pigs a frozen bottle of water wrapped in a thin towel for them to lie against.

:agr: With @Jaycey . Do what you can to cool him down and take him to a vet if he gives you any concern.

As @Jaycey you need to have you boar checked by a vet, as you know piggies can't perspire and find hot weather difficult to cope with. Placing a damp towel over the cage can help, frozen water bottle with a cover, ceramic tile in cage can be useful too.

Weigh your piggy daily to make sure he in't loosing weight also.

I didn't understand what your poll was all about to be honest.

I missed the poll. Polls are not usually relevant in the health and illness section and tbh I didn't think it related to this post so I have removed your poll @Soullesspotato

Update: He seems to be doing fine right now. Just sorta lying there, eyes half-open. I gave them ice cold water in their bottle, pointed the fan directly at their cage and closed all the windows. The poll was just for fun, wanting to see people's opinions on albino guinea pigs, as both of mine are albino.
As for the vet situation, there aren't necessarily any rodent specialists in my town. Whenever I bring my pigs to the vet, they either give them vitamin drops or instantly resort to putting them down. This happened to my older pig (R.I.P 2016, 7 yrs old) who had bowel problems. All I had to do was feed him lots of hay and he started pooping again.

Albino pigs aren't albino, they're either pink eyed whites or red eyed whites. I have a PEW.

How is your pig acting? Is he eating okay? Is he peeing and pooping okay?

@Jaycey come to think of it one might be PEW the other might be REW. Anyway, yes, he's doing just fine. As I'm typing this I witnessed him drinking out of his water bottle then proceed to leap over his food bowl. Sometimes they team up to move the bowl around the cage for fun, it's pretty adorable to catch them in the act. But annoying because sometimes they push it in front of the water bottle and are too lazy to move it. Back on track though. I still don't know what is wrong with him, he doesn't appear to be sick in any way, he's as healthy as he's always been. But my best way to describe how he feels when I pick him up is light. And he's not even losing any weight, he's still as fat as ever.

Maybe he's just feeling more comfortable around you and so is happy to lie around in the open. One of mine does it now, he used to hide all the time

If you think he's feeling lighter then it's best to weigh him regularly.

@Jaycey I'll try that. Are there any specific guinea pig scales I could buy? Or just use whatever? As I'm typing this he's sleeping in the corner with his eyes closed. Which means that he feels safe and comfortable in his environment.

@Soullesspotato Any that weigh in grammes. I have a pair of digital kitchen scales as they're easier to read than ones that have the dial on the front.

If you weigh him at the same time each day before or after he's eaten then you'll get a more accurate reading. It's surprising how much different in weight they are before and after food.
